could turn out to be the best hunt of your life.

this

I've only done 1 booked hunt before, and it was a turkey hunt in west Texas. The "guide" kinda screwed us up on the first day, which really got us down, but he let us stay an extra day and a half to make up for it, which allowed us to have the entire ranch to ourselves. No one else was around, not even him

It was awesome

How did this turn out?
Very nice areas to hunt around Rifle. Good public grounds north and west and up towards Meeker.
Good luck.

Guide is here!
He wants us to double check our scopes and then hopefully this hunt will finally begin. Beautiful country up here. Will post pics later.

Drake, maybe he thinks that it will only take you 1 or 2 days to bag one. Looking on the positive side?

Seems like this outfit has subcontracted us out and is screwing us. Hopefully it isn't as it seems but I guess we will see tomorrow.

Not at all uncommon unfortunately. I hear stories all the time of folks showing up to hunt and the guide and their money are nowhere to be found. Hope things turn around for you.

Outfitters hire out friends to guide all the time. Dont be too put off by that, often the local guy knows the area far better than the outfitter does.

Let's keep in mind he is mule deer hunting. You can stalk them all day long. Plus they have 5 days of walking and stalking and you're dealing with mountain-folk, who tend to be a little more chilled than most. I think OP will be be OK.

If mule deer lived in the eastern US the settlers would have wiped them out. I thinks the mountains saved them. They have nothing on a whitetails for survival instincts...

Why don't you just tell him he's an idiot for wasting $$$ on a guide when he could have just planned his own hunt on the dumb animal?

Eta....OP, good luck on your hunt and I hope you enjoy the walk through the mountains.

i was gonna mention if the guide falls through you could look up public land and plan your own hunt so it wouldnt be a wasted trip. 2-3 days of public land hunting is better than no hunting for sure.
