How did the NBA use Seattle as a pawn? They didn't force the Maloof's to deal with Hansen and Ballmer. The Maloofs were the problem in this whole ordeal. Working with the league and the city of Sacramento on a arena deal only to pull out and work out a sale of the team secretly for it to be relocated. Did the Maloofs really think they would get their way?
Upvote.

Once Bennett got them they were fricked.

they should give Seattle & St. Louis maybe Vegas instead.

Does the NBA really want expansion? That sounds like a terrible idea. Moving a team seems to make the most sense

I was rooting for Sacramento. Seattle will get a team, but a city like Sacramento is one and done. I wouldn't see them ever getting a second chance.

32 teams is a perfect number though

So they gave up like $140 mill to stay in sacramento over seattle, correct?
$110 million would have gone to the other owners as a relocation fee

Feel bad for Seattle.
I don't. Louisiana played ball and the league didn't sell the team for a better offer from someone wanting to move the team. Sacramento played ball and the league didn't sell the team for a better offer from someone wanting to move the team. I'm not saying the league was above board in all their dealings with the Sonics before they moved, but Seattle refused to play ball so the NBA found another place to play. Seattle has themselves to blame for losing the Sonics.

Sold BY the Maloofs not the other way

Vegas would never be able to support a team.
They wouldn't have a consistent fan base of season ticket holders

I heard chris broussard on the radio yesterday defending the Maloofs as great owners. mainly because they let him hang out with them. The guy truly is a hack

pretty good case for expansiom here
LINK
And an odd number of teams will work- no problem throughout the 80s.

I really don't get the impression the NBA is looking for expansion anytime soon....I think the Bobcats kind of ruined that train for awhile

I don't think they have liked the idea of expansion since the Raptors and Grizzlies came into the league.
Charlotte was a special case because George Shinn poisoned the market. The league wouldn't force out one of its own, but WOULD allow Charlotte to get a new team if Shinn relocated.

Theres something really fricked up that they can basically keep someone from making an extra 150 mil

Apparently an admin is trolling, because I didn't change the thread title.
