His scrambling brought a different dimension

I think this would have produced some first downs. Good lawd, Mett runs like a praying mantis sprints.

It's an excellent question to which I'll reply with the old proverb... "You can bring a horse to water but you cannot make it drink."

JJ's mannerisms, post game comments and the angry-Chinaman look after every blown play gave me the impression that JJ wasnt very coachable.

The rant owes him an apology. But there is a list:
1. Crowton
2. Every WR that played here after 2006
3. JL/JJ

All this bashing on Mett and the team is a bit absurd. WTF did you expect from an unproven QB commodity in his first SEC starts? Given the talent that left last year did you expect we would be better?

I think most of the ranters expected LSU's offense to look like West Virginia's, Mett for Heisman, and an undefeated National Championship season. They slightly overlooked the fact that it may actually take time for him to get accustomed to being the man.

No. Just because this year's offense is bad doesn't mean that last year's wasn't.

JJ's ability to run would help with the porous O-Line play this year.

It's amazing how the discussion of this years shitty line play is discussed this year way more than last year. It was just as shitty last year, the only difference is that one QB(JL) got rid of the ball quickly and another(JJ) would tuck it. This year Mett holds it longer than the previous two did....

The QB position for LSU has to be one of the toughest positions to play in college football. You don't get any receivers between the hashes, no crossing routes, no O line, no RB who gets the majority of the carries to get a feel for the game, most of the time you pass when you have to...not because you want to....Basically impossible to look good.

Agreed

The main problem this year is the OL injuries and inexperience. JJ wouldn't do anything else other than run the option and we would have less passing yards and few more rushing. JJ was an inaccurate passer. He hit his ceiling and it was a high ceiling. He led us to many wins, but if we had this OL situation last year, we would've been in trouble last year.

That said, I don't think it's the OL players fault. Vadal is doing the best he can, he's just got 2 starts of experience. Hurst is out of position at LT, Lonergan is gimped up, the guards have played well for the most part.

Think about it:

Projected starting lineup
LT - Faulk (Jr potential All-American)
LG - Willford (Jr)
C - Lonergan (Sr)
RG - Collins (So)
RT - Hurst (Sr All-SEC last year)

Actual starting lineup as it looks for this weekend
LT - Hurst (Sr)
LG - T. Turner (RS Fr 1st start)
C - Lonergan (hurt leg)
RG - Collins (6th start)
RT - V. Alexander (true fresh. 3rd start)

Sorry, but when you have an OL like that and you are going against SEC DLs it's going to be rough. Experience is the only thing that can cure youth and inexperience.

Fact is we are talented enough to win every game, but it will be ugly wins from here on out this year.

coaching can only help so much when you're as erratic as Jordan was.

the guy contributed to some great and played his heart out for us for 4 yrs, and for that I'm grateful. but at his best he was just a mediocre QB.

OL butter fingered receivers and experience are killing Mett. I'm still bullish on him.

FIFY, but agree in general.

This.

Mett looks 100% frustrated from the time he walks out of the tunnel to the end of the game. It's like he knows what they're gonna call, he knows what he's seeing on-field, and he realizes it's going to be a face-palm type of playcall. Every time.

JJ actually had receivers that could catch even his shitty arse throws. He had all of his starters on offense. He had the benefit of a team that was actually and always jacked up and ready to play(except during the most important game of the year, makes sense.) So no, we don't owe him an apology. The only person I think you owe an apology to is Les Miles, for giving up on someone that has given so much to you.

Maybe T Bob but not JJ. We're not missing a QB like we're missing blocks.

For the record, LSU wideouts hadn't been good since Dewayne Bowe.

Rueben Randle underachived at LSU to be recruited so high.

Since Flynn and Bowe left, the QB's and WR's have underachieved.

There is a very obvious pattern here.

The rant owes JJ an apology regardless of what has happened this season.

I don't think the team would be any worse but people forget JJ was sacked over 30 times in '09 with an O'line similar to this one.

I don't think either he, or JL would do better with the current circumstances.

Though, I will say that it's more the offense than it is the qb
Disagree with this. I believe your answer has more to do with stored hatred/venom, and less to do with objective reasoning.

JJ was able to scramble, and made a lot of his runs while under duress. Auburn 2010, while we lost, JJ was way more effective at moving the pocket and rolling out, than Lee was. He missed a lot of passes, but those were often passes Lee (and Mett) would not be able to even get off.

This season, JJ would have had enough mobility that we'd still be undefeated. More plays with his feet. Probably a TD once inside the 10 (think of Fla 2010, and his scramble for score).

I believe in general the LSU fanbase owes JJ an apology for being such dicks to one of their own players.

I'm not going to completely hate Miles for the offense this season, either. He brought in Kragthorpe with the clear intention of moving to a more traditional offense, and Kragthorpe got sick in a remarkably terrible stroke of luck. Nobody knew things would turn out the way they did. This season, they have attempted to become more of a passing team, but we've had some crappy injuries screwing up the line, an inexperienced QB making mistakes, and a young set of WRs not stepping up.

thoughts?

Our 2 SR QBs last season threw for 20 TDs with 5 INTs, completed bout 62%, had a combined QB rating of bout 145, and QBed LSU to a 13-1, 9-0 record.

6 games into 2012 our current QB has 6 TDs with 3 ints, completing 62%, has a QB rating of 140, and has QBed us to a 5-1, 1-1 record and #8 NR.

Playing QB in the SEC is damn tough, coaching against SEC teams is damn tough, and it's a damn shame some of us don't seem to appreciate the elite level of success both our players and coaches have given to us LSU fans in the last 7 to 10 yrs.
