I just saw on facebook that this is the new master plan. The link is a 13mb PDF, might not want to click on it if you are on a phone. It looks very impressive.

Are they going to have slaves rebuild those slave quarters that they now call "cottages built and arranged to create a village effect", for the white tourists?

that plan makes me sad as an architect. So poorly rendered.

That seems to be a rather ambitious number of rooms for that area.

I was thinking the same thing 49 cottage rooms and 88 hotel rooms. I know they get a lot of out of state travelers and have a large number of weddings, so they must see the demand.

I didn't look at all the pics. Too long a doc. I like the idea of cottages. Loved the ones Tezcuco used to have before it burned and I've stayed in the ones at Oak Alley a number of times. You have to call early to get them, though. Love the cottages at Butler Greenwood, also.

The question is whether Houmas House gets enough weddings to make the hotel worth the while. I'd stay in a cottage or the hotel just to be able to go there to eat for the night and enjoy many beverages of my choice after which driving is not recommended.

Why would you even ask the question? Of course they are. Silly minded liberals...

Last time I was there, my wife and I were talking with the bartender and she said that they have the ability to currently hold 3 weddings at one time. It appears that the Ballroom will only increase that capacity.

I agree with this and could also be source of a significant number of rooms being occupied.

I've been to several in the past few years, and they have had more than one going on each time I've been there.

Definitely. It's one of S. Louisiana's premier spots for a wedding IMO. $150/head for food/drinks is what was paid for the last wedding I attended there. You want your guests to be able to enjoy that and not have to worry about driving.

Aside from weddings at HH, there are weddings at Oak Alley, as well, and nowhere close to stay overnight if that's what you'd like to do. In addition to that, there are the folks who like to visit all of the plantations in that area. There's nowhere to stay in closer range, so they would pick up that crowd as well. The hotel will be a nice place to stay for folks who want to take a few days to do the river road tours even as far as Nottoway.

It would serve them well to move the chem plants wharf to the north a bit.

I heard they are in the works of opening a new restaurant on the property, and that Chef Jeremy Langlois would be designing the menu and overseeing all of them.

This is great news.

Houmas House has started construction on the third restaurant. The foundation is poured and it's being framed up as we speak. It will also serve as an additional ballroom. The Inn at Houmas House will have 22 rooms in the first phase. Some will be suites, some will be single rooms--all extrememly luxurious and very high end. Besides weddings, the targeted audience will be the international visitor mostly from the UK, Canada, France, and Germany. Contracts are already in place to fill these rooms during the week in 2013. The Steamboat overlook is part of a Federal Grant applied for and is estimated to be complete by the end of 2013. Currently, 8 addtional acres of gardens have been added and a small amphitheatre is underway. If you haven't been to Houmas House lately to see all the additions, you should. It's truly impressive.

We went a couple of months ago for dinner. There is a new room/ restaurant attached to the Turtle bar. It was completed but had not opened at the time of our visit but they let us walk around. 2 rooms, and very nice. It was dark while we were there so we really didn't get to see what else completed/ in the process of construction...

Just wanted to bump this...

Went with my gf and her family to eat at Latil's Landing last night and then we had drinks afterwards at the Turtle Bar. The new addition is very nice/impressive. Extra seating at the Turtle Bar is a hugeee plus...but the ballroom is over the top. He really went all out on it. The rest of the additions will be great, just hope that they have the demand for it all.

While in the Turtle Bar we had the pleasure of chatting with Jeremy's parents and they were kind enough to take us on a little tour into the kitchen of the new Tea Room. Pretty cool stuff, and extremely nice people. I sat and chatted with the bar tender most of the night...very interesting guy. Anyone know his story? Said he played college ball out on the west coast, was recently bartending in Vegas, and at one time worked for BJ's Brewhouse where he created their drink menu.
