Notre Dame and Louisville to be next members of Big 12?

That is what I was told this weekend. The Big 12 will expand to 12 teams and admit Louisville and Notre Dame. But here's the kicker:
Notre Dame will not compete for the Big 12 conference title in football. They will play around five Big 12 games every year, and still get to play their traditional rivalry games. In every other sport, they will compete for the Big 12 title.
Notre Dame would still get to keep their own TV deal for football games.
Thoughts on this?

horseshite.
The only way that should stand is that, when the NBC contract expires, they join the Big 12 contract.
ND is not in a particularly good position to negotiate, given that the Big Ten is moving on without them and that all of their traditional partners are going to have a LOT of obligations each season.
Service academies joining the expanded Big East for football eliminates a lot of their scheduling flexibility IMHO.

i dont see how this is advantagous for the big 12 in any way.

not one of our premium boards are even hinting at the possibility; last time this was brought up most of *insiders* expected the ACC as our first choice...fwiw.

I have heard absolutely zero about this.
Not to mention, it seems like:
A) Texas would be pissed beyond belief and not agree (they run the conference).
B) ND would downgrade in basketball significantly.
C) If ND wanted to do this in the Big East, we could, so why would we choose the Big Twelve instead if we're not going to play for a conference championship? Money would be the same, unless the BE loses its bid, which is extremely, extremely unlikely.

I don't understand how this will work out for everyone concerned.
The biggest issue is the television money and the games between ND and the Big "12" teams would be the issue.
If ND/NBC are getting the rights to those games then they certainly profit but what is the incentive for the Big 12?

very interesting. I have heard Clemson and FSU as potential candidates for the big 12. Lots of smoke about that on other websites. Either way it does appear like the big 12 is looking to expand.

Rick Pitino tried everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, he could to keep Louisville from getting a Big 12 invite the last time this was floated. He desperately wants them to stay in a "basketball conference". Strong on the other hand is all for it. And their AD Jurich is caught somewhere in between.
I'm really interested in seeing on how it pans out. Things could get real ugly in that athletic department depending on how smooth it goes over.
And if it does happen, shame on the Big 12 for not having the balls to tell Notre Dame to shite or get off the pot.
