Just the messenger. I'm sure he wouldn't want me repeating this on an LSU board

I think they drew crowds of 30-40K when winning under Bowden, who knows.
You think wrong.
They announced crowds of 30-40K during the Bowden era (actually the highest was 38K for the last game of the year) but Tulane has been ridiculously inflating that figure since they moved to the Superdome.
The announced crowd for the UTEP game was 16,000. The turnstile crowd was 973.

That is just talk. The fly is owned by the Audubon Society. I heard it was going to be in the front of Audubon park near St. Charles right off the golf course, also owned by the Audubon Society. One thing is for sure, there is no room to build a stadium on Tulane's compact campus.

Sorry man, I didn't mean to light into you personally.

Tulane can be a major player in college athletics, but they need to pony up a lot of their own money to do it instead of expecting the Big XII to use its money to make it happen for them.

That is the fundamental problem for the Tulane-Big XII dreamers. They somehow expect the Big XII to start funneling them cash as an investment to make them eventually worthy of an invitation.

I think it stops at 12 with Cincy. This is assuming that Mizzou makes up its damn mind.

I think Mizzou has made up it's mind and is just waiting for the legal issues to play out before they can announce anything. In a quick interview last night after returning to Missouri Mr Deaton was asked what he thought of the new measures being taken by the Big 12. He said “ They're making some of the right moves, now, that are necessary for the Big 12 to do, and I wish them the best and all of that."

He said he wished them the best. That sounds to me like a statement saying they're making some right moves but they are too little and too late.

Also, Texas could play Tulane on Labor Day weekend in New Orleans every other year. They could get a three day weekend in New Orleans.

That's also Southern Decadence, fitting for the Teasips.

There are plans that have been drawn up that would allow a stadium of 40 - 45K. It would have to be shoe-horned in, but it can be done.

Recruiting - We would get an occasional recruit from you, but that's OK. You can only take 25, and of that 25, how many come from N.O. and LA? We could do very well in keeping the other players in state that currently go to Miami, Boston College, Ole Miss, etc. OKC and Texas would be going after the athletes that you currently now own.

We were approached, and that is the sad part. I wish that we were more aggressive. Our AD is meeting with Rich Rodriguez today in Chicago. Just to get an interview with him shows the interest. The fact that Tulane is spending the money on an OCS and a good coach are all I need to know that the rumors are true about the Big 12. Maybe not this go around, but given our current administration, they would not spend the money unless it was real.

The OC from Arkansas has also showed interest, he seems like a real good coach with a good bio.

You have a link to the drawn up plans for the 40-45k OCS? I ask because I read a TU board sometimes and the rumors have been circulating for a couple years, and the seating capacity was never even mentioned to be close to that. More like 25k on the low end ,35k on the high end.

There have been rumors of press conferences, plan unveilings, and secret big money donors for a long time, and it never pans out.

Talked to Tulane administrators about this...more like 25 to 30 K expandable by maybe another 5 K.

Would the school finally lower academic standards for entry to match conference rivals? Unlikely.

Tulane already released the Playbook with said plans to spend money months ago. It had nothing to do with BCS conference dreams. It had to do with placating supporters of athletics. TU leadership has plenty of money to throw at "the problem" but no willingness to lower requirements to an even playing field.

Also, Tulane has the chance to hire a really good up-and-coming coach, at worst. It has happened there before, and I think Toledo improved the talent and recruiting in-roads in Louisiana. Find a QB with a dynamic offensive scheme, and the Green Wave can win in CUSA (or whatever division of the mega-league they are about to join).

If Leach was at Tulane I think he could steal an offensive recruit from LSU

I do not have access to the plans. However, I have spoken to someone who has seen them. The tennis center would have to be gone and the Wilson Center would be folded in so to speak.

The playbook did not mention access to a BCS conference as far as I can remember. However, as I just stated, Texas came to us. I wish we would have been more aggressive years ago. There is absolutely no reason why we can't be successful. Our only downfall has been ourselves. There is no reason why we can't get our program to the level where we can play each other and it not be over by halftime. I grew up going to the games against you and it was a blast.

No one truly knows the fan base of Tulane and that is our fault. We draw in Baseball. If you back out the SEC we are top 5 in attendance. With the SEC we are in the top 18 or so. In football our last 2 competitive years we drew 38K as the high point. However, this was on a Thursday night. I don't blame the fans for not going. Hopefully all of that will change. If I had to put a figure on it I'd guess we could draw 35+ for the big games (LSU, Texas, OKC) and 28+ for Baylor etc. That being said, New Orleans is a destination city and hopefully 5 - 10K would travel.

It's exciting to be a Tulane fan for a change, it's been a long time. I truly hope it happens. I will say this again, they are spending money. Tulane never spends money,,,,,something's up.

Good Luck against Alabama,,,I think you win by 7.

No. They'll team up with Baylor and get volume discounts on tarp purchases.

With Baylor, 28 means exactly that -- 28. Not 28,000 as you may dream. They don't even buy tickets to Kyle Field and it's only 90 miles away.

Audubon park is not owned by the Audubon society, it is a quasi city agency.

BBTAIM, the fly is probably not structurally able to support a stadium even if Tulane got the right to build there, that area is batture formerly used as a sanitary land fill. In in the early sixties they covered it with a few feet of sand and earth sand and it became a park.

There is no room for a stadium between the golf course and St. Charles and the neighbors would freak if you tried to frick up the Park with a stadium

It was still a landfill as late as 1968-69 and there was nothing sanitary about. Dead horses mixed in with junked cars.

Texas might also see that propping up another BCS school in Louisiana could work to reduce the dominanat recruiting LSU has had over the last decade.
Get some recurits from LSU to Tulane.
Get some play time in Louisiana and steal some for Tx.

This is the Shorthorns' motive, no doubt.

Would it send LSU back to the days of Hallman? Hell no.

Would it be an aggravation for LSU? Yes.

The Weenies are thrilled to be Texas's little whore in the scenario.

I guess I can't blame them; if my program was in as bad a shape as theirs, I'd suck off whomever I had to for a lifeline.

I personally think Toolame athletics is in such bad shape that Texas could never sell them to the Big 12, even with the stroke the Shorthorns have.

But I don't mind saying, I don't want any chance--no matter how remote--of Texas and OU playing in NOLA every other year and stealing an occasional LSU Louisiana bluechipper.

There is room for only one AQ program in Louisiana and that is LSU.

The Weenies have screwed their football program up for the last sixty years.

Let them head where they belong--the Sun Belt, the Southland or oblivion, any one is fine with me.

Well, I admit you're a refreshing change from those delusional Toolame fans--what few of them there are--who thinks Toolame is relevant and still has a "rivalry" with LSU.

Tulane fans should be like McNeese, Northwestern and Nicholls State fans--you should root for LSU because they are Louisiana's BCS team. Then, root for your team on the level they play on ... which is far, far below LSU.
