People will drop like flies if the program returns to the Hallman or end of the Dinardo era, or if they raise the price to some kind of insane level.....but not before then.

It won't take a Hallmaneque coaching performance to thin the crowds considerably.

People on here are fond of saying "If you want to win championships, then you have to pay the price" whenever someone complains about ticket prices, taf fees, etc. When you are paying an arm and a leg to see a game then you won't put up with as much losing as if it was relatively cheap.

With the price of tickets the way they are, the price of gas, and now the cost of parking it will only take a coupe of mediocre seasons to get TS's attendance to 75% of capacity.

BS. I've parked on most SEC campuses for away games and didn't have to pay that much for non prime spots. I've been to Arkansas, Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss, MSU and didn't have to pay that damn much. Not even the Dome charged that much.

Charge any car with at least one ticket $20 to park and $50 w/o a ticket and you will be in the right zone for charging. 4 valid tickets in a car and you park for $10.

I'm reading a book, Crash Course, about the fall of the US Auto Industry. Alot of attitudes I'm seeing right now such as gouging the fans like this are similar to what I'm reading was the attitude of GM and the UAW. There would always be a demand for the product, people would always line up, the goose would always be there.

Until it wasn't. Don't believe me? I'm watching just about every pro sport having problems filling the stands. NASCAR was a sure thing a few years ago. Now look at how many empty seats you are seeing at the most popular races. Don't you dare think LSU or other SEC teams are immune.

couldnt agree with this more.

Not intersested in paying bunch of money to watch nrthwestern or any other crap game especially if LSU wants to make the day more expensive.
All you "pay to play people" keep fighting the good fight... who knew so many people were more concerned about a multi-million dollar athletic dept/uiversity's bottom line than the greater good of their own personal finances?
Ill stay home, go play golf that am and have people over for the game later.
Tailgate for fricking free at my house... ice cold beers... grillling good food and watching on my big HD tv.
Perfectly content.

Do you hate me because I don't have season tickets? Do you dislike the fact that I feel $40 to park for what may end up being a few hours (ifg I don't get a ticket) is too much? Does it piss you off that in the past if I couldn't find a ticket I would just tailgate and visit with friends that I don't get to see year-round except for during football season? Does that make me less of a fan?
THIS.

I've gone through many evolutions as a fan. Presently, with small children, we're more the tailgate-only types. I want my kiddos to get an early taste of the Gameday magic, but the games aren't feasible.

frick all you people that only consider your own situations.

The issue here is killing the golden goose. The strong LSU tailgating tradition is a gift that keeps on giving. More fans on campus does more than just generate revenue, it enforces behavioural patterns. These strong behavioural patterns can turn fair-weather fans into hard core fans, increase the energy on campus, and maintain it even through down times. If you overprice in order to keep out the riff raff, yet in doing so keep out good fans as well, you are disrupting a behavioural pattern. A group that tailgates is stimulating the economy and LSU. More importantly, they are passing that tradition on to friends and family, who will likely continue that tradition given good experiences.
The danger here is mission creep. If they overprice parking and it still fills up for big games, then soon nearly all lots on campus will have some fee. And when (god forbid) we have a down period, those prices are the dealbreaker. Tailgaters stay home. The tradition is disrupted. "well, we used to tailgate, but dad and his group stopped when the prices got ridiculous. We just stay home now and party at the house. It's just not worth it to deal with the hassle anymore."
Break the chain, and it is very difficult to regain that same level down the line.

The real freaking issue is what it always is, arrogance or perception of it and poor communication. Why didn't they explain the need for charging, and why they are doing it, and ask how it would affect participation and what would be a reasonable rate. It appears it that we have a majority taht thanks $20.00 would be fine. A simple survey monkey would have been fine.

Our whole country was founded over this same BS. It was called a Tea tax.

The parking charges/revenue goes to the AD.

I just do not understand how people can buy TVs, gens. tents, food, drinks etc. and complain about $40. The university takes a tremendous wear and tear on the Saturdays and it needs help with its expenses of up-keep. By the way; I do hate my mother-in-law!

I'll tell you why they complain - because people are generally all of a sudden being forced to pay an excessive amount of money (according to most people) for something they were getting for free for many years. That's just human nature.

As far as the wear and tear on the campus - If every fan said, "Nevermind, we're not tailgating so you can protect the campus", LSU would welcome them back with open arms without the $40 fees. It's about the $$$. One way or another, they know that tailgating brings in big bucks - they're just trying to make the number bigger.

It's nice to know that in this terrible economy, the AD is getting a $175,000 raise, the men's basketball coach is having his contract extended until 2015 with those 5 SEC wins in the last 2 seasons and the fans are being screwed with a $40 parking fee. When a parking spot goes from free (for decades) to costing as much as the main event in one year, I have a problem with that. Yes, fans have a choice, but it still doesn't make it reasonable.

I mean, LSU has a $10 fee just to get on the waiting list for season tickets. What do they say, "Oh thanks for your payment...let me check the list...awe...nope, your name isn't near the top yet. You got anything bigger than a $10...that could be the problem..."

I can understand the ticket increases that have happened, but this stuff. Come on... LSU fans are so loyal that it can sometimes be easy to take advantage of them. I personally think they should be treated a little better. Hopefully the football program will remain elite. But should things go south, stuff like this will backfire in the worst way. It's always good to be able to envision various scenarios before implementing big changes.

I'm not necessarily against the parking fees, as there is still ample free parking. I do think LSU has shite on the BR business community. The first straw was the economic hit of taking a home game and bringing it to Dallas, and now by discouraging tailgating, you are screwing local restaurants/grocery stores/caterers who may also lose income.

If this is really about campus cleanliness I say anyone that gets arrested for a minor crime can get it off their record if they clean up on one of the next home game sundays.

Drunk and disorderly, MIP, littering, public disturbance, etc. you can just clean up for 4 hours and the charges get dropped. Problem solved.

You're right, it won't. But no one said anything about thinning crowds. The comment I responded to, which was quoted in my post, was about the stadium being half full and the campus being a ghost town on gameday. It would take more than a couple of 4 loss seasons to get to that point.

OP, when does Alleva start charging a corkage fee for any beer brought into the "Tailgate Zone" that is not an officially licensed LSU beer?

Promise you that scumbag has pondered that thought.
