Michael Ford redshirt! Miles, you better think long and hard on that one. If you think he's good enough to where he would leave after a so year like Knoshown Moreno then play him, otherwise keep him on redshirt. This season is down to two meaningless games now

We don't need to. Give Ridley the ball 20 times and split carries between Holliday and Shepard

quote:

While he didn’t tab Ford by name, Miles gave strong indication that No. 42 was the man in question.

“There’s a freshman tailback that we’ve considered taking the redshirt off,” admitted Miles.

The fifth-year coach continued, giving his take on who’ll be the backfield bell cow this weekend against Arkansas.

“Stevan Ridley certainly gets the lion’s share of those snaps … We’re getting some other guys ready for two-back offense and running some traditional runs, off-tackle and iso with some other guys.”

Didn't Saban burn Travis Daniels redshirt for a play or two vs Tennessee in 2001 ?

While I agree that would be a bad decision, I'm not sure I understand your logic as to why it would be better to burn it if he's gonna leave early?

Saban also burned Steltz's red shirt in the 04 Arkansas game.

Everyone needs to calm down. It's Miles' talent. he brings it in. If he has confidence that he will have other strong backs in the next few years, he can do whatever the F he wants. Ya'll act like breaking red shirts is the end of the world. It's not like people won't graduate from high school after Ford signed with us. There will be more studs coming up, stop crying and over reacting.

There's an old saying among college coaches. It goes like this: "Do we play him with a chance to win and keep our jobs, or do we let the next staff play him?"

That said, it would be a disservice to Mr. Ford.

Why would you play him. We don't run the ball enough to need a running back. We need to recruit a 5 star punter with Crowton running the show.

Pulling the redshirt off Ford is unneccessary and stupid.

The redshirt only affects the senior year. You have to be in college 3 years before you can enter the draft. Knowshown was a reshirted soph, that's why he could leave. If he wasn't redshirted his soph year, he'd still have to wait til his junior year to declare (so it'd be the same year, last year, and 3 years after he entered college, he'd just be a different class [soph compared to junior]).

I don't know how good Ford is, I'm not a recruiting guru. It does seem kind of stupid to burn it, this late, but if you don't think he'll stay five years (i.e. he'll leave after his redshirt junior or redshirt sophomore years) then there's no reason to keep his redshirt, when he can help Saturday and in the bowl.

Don't burn the redshirt on the last game. That would be stupid beyond belief.
