Does anyone have a color picture of the scoreboard during a replay?
Not during a replay but of the singing of the Alma Matter:
By contrast, this is in the beginning when they played a video using the full screen:
ETA: If you notice, the full screen video even has ads in each corner still. I'd prefer this as opposed to the gigantic ads that take up half the screen.

Here's the old South EndZone scoreboard to compare to the new one:

people that say "well, it's better than what we had..."... No one's disputing that.
but it's like someone saying "hey, instead of shooting you, i'll just punch you in the face"... of course getting punched in the face is better than the alternative, but it it good?

If you look at the two pictures above of the new board and the old board, all of the ads are the same size. I'm sure those companies have contracts in place that guarantee them certain square footage of ad space. Hopefully, once these contracts expire, the whole screen will be used for showing game video...but I guess that's wishful thinking.

i'm not a huge fan of the new scoreboard either. the advertisements are way too big and i had alot of trouble reading the downs, yards, and timeouts. i had no problem reading coca-cola, cox, capital one, and mcdonalds. the screen seems a little bigger but it too has ads from time to time. the things i look at a "scoreboard" for are very hard to read in my opinion. its nothing but digital ads. lsu definitely needs to change this.

Not sure if this is true but I heard that LSU is still obligated to show the ads on the new scoreboard b/c they are currently under contact with the sponsors for certain size signage.
Not sure why a new contract could not be worked out but that is what I heard.

Why do some of you assume that corporate sponsorship is needed to have a nice scoreboard? There was a point in time where corporate sponsorship was not the norm. Case in point: the Superdome, the Astro-dome, Yankee Stadium. Built without corporate sponsorship. Yet now we have: Landshark Stadium, Invesco Field at Mile High, FedEx Stadium.
Teams make you believe that improvements cannot be done without corporate sponsorship, but that is bullshite. That is just extra revenue in their pockets.
Tiger Stadium was built without corporate sponsorship. LSU had uniforms before the NIKE swoosh was placed on it. Coaches wore LSU gear before being decked out in NIKE apparel. And LSU had a scoreboard before COKE and COX put there shite all over it.
If you actually believe that LSU could not have come up with $7 million to pay for a replay board you are mistaken. Those kinds of projects are paid out over time. That scoreboard is good for 10 years, minimum. That's $700,000 per year. They could have increased the ticket prices by $1.00 and paid for that board. Hell they could pay for that board with the sale of their $5.00 cokes. The kind of revenue that LSU generates through ticket prices, suites, concessions, LSU gear sales, etc. during one game is probably mind numbing.
God forbid the athletic administration does something solely for the benefit of the fan; to enhance the fan's overall experience.
All the while, they reduce elbow room, increase prices on everything, decrease the size of the student section and reduce the size of the replay screen to accommodate the "necessary" sponsorship.

In fact, it's nothing like that...which is why a few of us are tired of the bitching about it.
Are you seriously suggesting the upgrade is akin to being punched in the face? This is why this entire argument is hard to take seriously. What would be so hard in simply saying:
1- The screen, when utilized to its fullest looks great. (assuming you even think that)
2- I'm not happy with the numbers of ads being shown on the board because it tkes up too much space and detracts from the size of the board.
Instead, we get talk about how the whole thing sucks.
For my take, I'm thoroughly pleased with the new screen. I'm glad they made the changes they made from game 1 to game 2 in terms of getting pertinent game info up there...and all things being equal I'd love if they could use more of the board for showing actual game highlights and footage instead of advertising. But I'm in no way willing to suggest that I'd throw the baby out with the bathwater simply because I'm not 100% pleased with the end result...because the end result is 1000% better than what we had.

Do you REALLY want to know what $7 million will get you?
LINK
As far as comparing the actual replay area of the new board to the old video board? The replay area on the old board was only 15% of total scoreboard. Sounds like LSU got WAY more for that $7 million than you give them credit for.
quote:
The upgrade of LSU’s scoreboards is a joint project of the LSU Athletic Department and the Tiger Athletic Foundation who contracted with Daktronics, Inc. to design, manufacture and install the displays. In all, approximately $7.2 million worth of video and messaging display improvements will be made to LSU athletics facilities.
quote:
Facilities that are receiving the improvements are the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, the new Alex Box Stadium, the new Tiger Park softball stadium, the LSU Soccer Complex, the LSU Natatorium, Bernie Moore Track Stadium, Dub Robinson Tennis Stadium and Tiger Stadium. The package includes nearly a dozen new integrated video displays, each engineered with Daktronics’ light emitting diode (LED) technology.

I've been commenting about the same thing when at the last 2 games. The replay screen size is huge and most of it is taken up with ads. When they play the "get loud" or other graphics, they use the whole screen, but for replay, we get almost a picture in picture size screen.
You think Jerry Jones - the ultimate capitalist an a hero of mine - is mucking with making the replay by making it split time with Coke and Micky D's? LSU needs to get with it. I bet there is no way out of the deal this year because the advertisers bought this placement based on certain guarantees.

i'm saying that while yes, the new scoreboard is better than the old one, it's still not good.
who gives an F if it "could be awesome". until it is, it's not.

throw the baby out with the bathwater
We can only hope that LSU improves the use of the scoreboard (eg, bigger replay area and game stats) when the ad contracts expire. But I doubt that will happen.

LSU athletics didn't receive $350 million in taxpayer money like Jones did.

So to be clear, LSU spent $7 million dollars and got screens/stuff for:
-Tiger Stadium
-Alex Box
-Softball field
-Soccer
-Natatorium
-Track
-Tennis
That seems like useful information while having this discussion.

also, is lsu the only school that subscribes to this super secret "business and marketing"? because you don't see near as much of this bullshite at other schools.
$7,000,000 / 7 games / 94,000 = $10.64
we all could have paid $10 more per ticket this year, or we could let Coke and the Lotery pay for it.......

Not necessary as it does not support the theory that LSU is a money grabbing organization that places financial interests above all else, especially the fan's enjoyment, all while spending like a drunken sailor on things of little to no value.
ETA: Sorry, I'll stop now.
