I think the problem lies in the contract. It was obviously not redone to accommodate the new scoreboard and someone really drop the ball. If it was redone then I have to assume they were thinking with their wallets and not there brains.
The Coke ad is a ridiculous waste and where most of the problem is anyways. Take out the coke lettering at the bottom and you have a much more reasonable add. Everyone knows white and red along with that bottle shape ='s coke. Hell it's even written on the bottle. If the contract was not redone then someone got lazy as hell by not at least attempting in redesigning the ad.
The tiger vision replay sponsored by Cox is a waste because the Cox static sponsorship is to the left anyways.
I appreciate the hell out of the new scoreboard as it is much clearer but like many of you have said it is extremely inefficient regarding ad size to replay ratio.
I hope things improve over this season, but I have a feeling not much will change.

The funny thing is all these people calling for just a backlit board for the ads would then bitch about how it makes death valley so aesthetically not pleasing especially from the outside. Our board isn't tall enough to support all the ads circling the screen like the ones previously shown. I'm down with the new board and you ungreatful sons of bitches should be as weell.
...because it's soooooooo aesthetically pleasing right now with more than 50% ads.

i bet they are sending out subliminal messages:
i wanna drink coca cora. i wanna eat mcdonal.
i wanna drink coca cora. i wanna eat mcdonal.

You know what all of you are right...Coke's contract solely encompasses the scoreboard. That's why there is only coke on campus, only powerade in the weight room, only coke products served at all sporting events. Let's tell them to hell with them and they can take back all the other amenities that come with their sponsorship as well. My math may be off but as a guess, that would add up to a little more than a $10 increase per person per ticket....
We have some of the best athletic facilities in the nation and everyone is still bitching about it...unbelievable.

I love the “well, it’s just going to raise the ticket prices” argument as if they haven’t gone up at all in the last ten years. Hell, they’re currently working the Tradition Fund donation thing to get even more money but “if we lose coke we’re going to have to raise ticket prices.” Hey arse-hat, THEY ALREADY ARE!!!...

Gotta admit Tech has a pretty nice board no matter what they call it.

You're right they are raising prices and you are bitchig about that right now. Case in point. You already dislike the rocket price increases so imagine the jump they'll make without massive sponsors.
I know you have probably been removed from campus for a while especially with cultured and civilized responses such as arse hat, so I don't expect you to see the benefits of the coke sponsorship beyond the scoreboard. I don't expect you to fathom the amount of impact substantially losing them may have...but hey I don't want to throw anyhing over your head there so feel free to ask questions or continue pretendig that you know what you're talking about.

Like I said earlier the main problem I have is the fact that the damn Coke ad is irresponsibly big. They took no effort to try and redo the ad to better fit the new scoreboard for a better viewing experience.
I know the coke contract isn't just about the scoreboard, but their advertising contract sure as hell includes it and I would have to assume those contracts go from year to year, unless they locked in coke for so many years.

You would think by paying for a ticket you would get commercial free premium viewing.

Does anybody know what the frick they are talking about regarding the Coke/other advertisers contract? Perhaps there is another way the contract stipulations can be met, like actually running a coke commercial in between action, then having full sized replays.
Nevermind, I'll bet people would really freek over that. It might be worth a try.

Sooo, how do our ticket prices compared to the ones that have larger screens? Something tells me, that it's not a linear correlation. Raising ticket prices is a dumbarse excuse to get more real estate from a configurable score board. I can still read the frikkin' adds if they were 3' ft smaller.

Isn't there some other way to advertise in that huge stadium? We put in a couple ribbon boards to handle the advertisements in Ruston, so that we'd have the whole videoboard for nothing but video. LSU's got WAYYYYYYYY more resources than we do at Tech, so I'd be surprised if the administration there couldn't come up with some better way to please its fans.
Also, yeah we were calling our videoboard something else amongst ourselves until our biggest sponsor for the thing dubbed it "Dawgzilla" and put a big banner up with that name for the home opener. Lots of facepalming occurred, but the name doesn't really matter. I'll have to check you guys' "adzilla" or whatever in November when my Dawgs come to town!

Where are these ribbon boards you speak of? By the way, even with all the ads on the new LSU scoreboard, the video portion is still just as big or bigger than Tech's.

There's not much incentive to please fans when the waiting list for LSU season tickets is probably longer than the season ticket list at Tech. Bottom line: Winning games should be enough to please fans (although you wouldn't realize this based on plenty of posts here on the Rant).
