As determined by advertising budget with the magazine.

Those "best of" results in 225 are generally considered a joke.

I was wondering............

I am sure that you for one could give us a better review for Fajitas and Burritos.............

I'll throw in my 2 cents:

Bread Pudding - If you are a fan, you simply must try Brunet's.

Fried Catfish - Two places not mentioned that are money is Don's (the old one on Airline) and Our Place.

Gumbo - Don's again..........

Ribs - Is there really a "BEST" one in BR??

Yeah, I really don't put much worth into these kinds of "best of". One of the N.O. magazines(Where Yat or N.O. Magazine) had taco bell as best mexican recently.
Alot of these are either based on advertizing or votes given by the public and sometimes there might only be two or three people voting, so you get some really messed up results.

I was with my gf a few years ago in a restaurant and overheard them (the 225 staff) saying to the manager of the place that they won't even do an article on you unless you advertise. That magazine is a 100% joke just like you said.

That is how Gambit and Where Y'at compose many of their lists as well.

Speaking of NOLA restaurants, I'd have to say that Drago's definitely does the best advertising of anyone.

There used to be this guy on AM radio and it was basically the drago's show they had so many plugs on there. I can't remember his name.

It is shocking that he spawned from the astute, intelligent Phil Johnson.

Let me give you a rundown on how this list was probably made:

Step 1 -- Editor/publisher asks one or two writers to do it, giving them a list of restaurant advertisers ahead of time.

Step 2 -- Writers do the article based on the places they've already been to.

Step 3 -- Article is approved with the publisher, making sure key advertisers and new advertisers are accounted for and given adequate exposure. Non-advertisers, specifically those who advertise with competitor publications, are removed from the article.

Step 4 -- Profit.

"As determined by advertising budget with the magazine"

Not actually true. I was Marketing Director for DeAngelo's for 2 years. We never advertised in 225 except in the Best Of issue. We were voted as Best Salads every year by the readers. Since leaving DeAngelo's, I was selected to take part in the voting. Don't know about other publications, but 225's Best Of doesn't depend on advertising budgets.

That may be the difference. Some of these list are put together just on votes of readers, but other times they will do list that is put together by the staff and that is where the advertisers are heavily favored.

I googling shite on doughnuts and this came up....I just thought it was something cool to look at. I know some of the stuff on here is BS, but it might give some of you an idea on where to eat something sometime if you have a crave.

Monjunis is gross. I want to like it because I like the atmosphere, but it is complete FAIL.
