Young Frankenstein was also my favorite.

His user name here is "threeputt". Here is the thread where he douches out:

And then when it finally did open, he STILL said the liquor license was temporary before finally admitting he didn't know what the hell he was talking about, which is here:

Seared Tuna appetizer with the white vinegar and cucumbers is money. I think it's the "peppered tuna".

The search function is your friend. I liked it btw.
Popeye's has always been superior.
This sucks. The Czaban show was the best sports show on radio, period.

Nutt's recent mastery of LSU

Posted by donato on 11/16/09 at 11:37 am
Anyone seeing Nutt having a similar run to how Tuberville had over us from 97-02.

I Don't see LSU winning next week. Very painful to see a hated coach have his team "in our heads" so much to where we know LSU has no shot to win.

If they play swamp pop I'm more likely to set the place on fire than eat there. Your preferences may differ.

re: Headed up to NY!

What's really sad is how some people on here posted like they thought the game was actually in NYC

re: Best Restaurants in BR?

Gino's
Fleming's
Little Village
Chris'
Thai Kitchen

(in no particular order, except Gino's is #1 and I like Fleming's more than Chris').

Honorable mention:

Pocarello's
Jay's Bar-B-Que (the one on Government only)
Serop's
I don't know how to quote, but to antiquetiger- I wonder how that place stays in business! Even on Friday and Saturday nights there's hardly ever anyone in there. I went once and it was o.k. at best. It's not even owned by people from that area though. They must have deep pockets.

Anyway, for my money it's Serop's all the way. I like the one on Jefferson at Government the best, but the others are very good too.
I think Pluckers is much worse than BWW and WOW. I wish we still had a WOW in BR. To me WOW is quite a bit better, but I still like BWW.

re: Monjunis' Pizza

Posted by donato on 8/20/09 at 3:01 am to
I agree. I really wanted to like Monjunis. I love the decor. The food is really, really bad to me. I've even eaten there four times or so thinking that maybe I just wasn't ordering the right thing. But alas, it's just not good food.

re: Ruffino's or Geno's

Posted by donato on 8/13/09 at 2:10 am to
Gino's by far IMO. I like more authentic southern Italian though.

re: Is there still a fast track open?

Posted by donato on 8/11/09 at 5:54 pm to
I didn't truly learn to love Fast Track until they were quickly disappearing. It's a shame as it was pretty damned good. Whoever ran that franchise screwed it up by expanding too fast then it all came tumbling down.

Yeah I've had it. Nice little addition once in awhile. Refreshing...

re: Most overpriced place in Baton Rouge

Posted by donato on 8/5/09 at 2:18 am to
Juban's.
Followed by any and all Mexican food.

I don't think Jay's or Gino's is overpriced. Worth every last penny. Also, the Jay's on Government is much better tasting in my opinion.

re: Little Village suggestions

Posted by donato on 7/19/09 at 7:05 pm to
It's all about the manicotti. Game over!

re: What is your favorite at Jubans?

Posted by donato on 7/17/09 at 2:44 am to
The overpriced, overrated one...

...oh wait- that's all of them!

Good place to meet up for drinks though!

re: Monjuni's on Highland

Posted by donato on 7/10/09 at 11:47 am to
I like the decor at the one on Jefferson a lot, but I just can't get into the food at all.
It's a good list. Dragon's Den should've made it on atmosphere alone though...

re: The best thing at Gino's

Posted by donato on 7/8/09 at 5:50 pm to
I'm a simple guy. I usually either go for spaghetti w/ penne pasta with one meatball and one italian sausage link OR the tortalini marinara. the shrimp champagne is good, but if you're looking for "red sauce" (like usually am) then give my rec's a go. I'm also a fan of the Gino's salad, caprese salad, and the Antipasto Francesca salad. The pizza is also quite good. i'm actually not a fan of the arancini, but a lot of people love it. really, everything on the menu is good including the fish and steaks.
Digiulio Brothers Italian Cafe -- 7.5
Fleur De Lis -- 9
Juban’s Restaurant -- 6
Mike Anderson’s Seafood -- 6
Ruffino’s -- 8
The Chimes -- 8
Little Village -- 8.5
Gino's -- 10
First of all, keep in mind whenever rankings/ratings like these come out they are never "right". Don't get your panties in such a wad. It's not a big deal.

Just on the other post this is what I think. It must be incomplete though as I don't see Italian and about 20 other categories...

Anyway, here's my take:

Best New Restaurant - Zea's

It's ok. Haven't been everywhere.

Best Asian - PF Changs

Sketchy at best, but I do like one of their chicken dishes.

Best Mexican - Superior

don't like Mexican, no opinion...well actually it does suck pretty bad.

Best BBQ - TJ Ribs

the only BBQ I like is "fake" BBQ and that's Jay's on Government...a.k.a. THE BOMB (haha. nice oldschool terminology).

Best Gumbo - The Chimes

don't eat gumbo

Best Pizza - Fleur de Lis

this is correct

Best Grilled Fish - Bonefish Grill

a little specific aren't we? don't order grilled fish enough to give an accurate assessment, but i have heard negatives about here.

Best Burgers - Georges

i love george's, but i'll also be the first to say they don't have the best burgers. for me it's byronz bistro and it's not close.

Best Seafood - Mike Anderson's

just NO.

Best Sushi - Tsunami

sushi is weird. it really is. it's mostly about freshness and most restaurants have their ups and downs. they don't put enough emphasis on quality. if they think they can get away with serving something that is ok rather than up to snuff they will. you may have a great experience 9/10 times, but then they'll drop the ball and won't serve you something that is acceptable. anyway, in conclusion, to be honest as much as i eat there's so many places i can't give an honest opinion.
