the confusion of the Straight of Hormuz

we have total control. no ship can enter or leave without the US Navy's permission
Iran is laying mines and we are giving permission to our navy to shoot at them.
now...........if we have control, why is iran laying mines?
if they are laying mines, wouldn't that help us control any traffic going in or out?
if they want to lay mines, doesn't that mean that they want it closed to all vessels?
who has control? this is so confusing.

The media is going to skew in the direction of chaos and uncertainty in their reporting.
The WH will skew towards order and control.
Somewhere in the middle is how it really is.

Navy set up blockade across entrance where Pakistan border is. Shipping inside the blockade is different and where mines are being used.

The confusion is coming from inside the house.

It should not be confusing to you. You seem to have most of your facts correct.
No one is in "total control" of the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping through the waterway is disrupted for everyone.
The only unknown at this time is who will be most impacted by the present situation.
It may very well be that Iran will be the most impacted. On that issue, time will tell.

The US has ultimate control. If we truly want any vessel to enter or leave, then that vessel will enter or leave. There is some risk with that of course. Iran could choose to fire upon that vessel. But I think that would not work out well for them. And they know it.
So why don't we simply allow all non-Iranian vessels to pass? Because it's beneficial to us politically to allow some, and not others. In some cases, it puts pressure on other countries to provide assistance, or to otherwise get their shite together. Reaction, or nonreaction, by certain other countries provides valuable information.
Iran's only "control" is their ability to threaten, and to strike fear into Lloyds of London.

Any confusion is caused by what you are taking in with news. The straight is closed to all except who our President allows to go in and out. There has been some small boats with Iranians jumping and harassing ships in the gulf. Since it didn’t happen to Us or Jewish boats, those from the country’s involved need to step up and become more involved. US control of the straight is very real. If the blockade goes on much longer a severe hardship will a

Everything is always about the straights of Hormuz. When will we think of the gays of Hormuz?

The two ships they boarded were anchored right off the coast of Iran.
Easy pickings. They’re not going out into the strait and capturing moving ships.

Because they are right there 24/7 with a bunch of mine laying speed boats. We have not elected to send the Marines in to destroy their speed boats. And we likely won't.

No. We want to stop only ships going to and from Iran and everyone else is free to pass
Iran wants to stop everyone else

Is the confusion over how to spell “strait” correctly?

Apparently, the gays of Hormuz use the wrong flow way and always end up with a blockade being pushed back.

Do you mean the word "Strait"? As in a narrow channel that lies between two land masses?
What is a "Straight of Hormuz"? Someone who isn't gay?
Makes sense as to why you'd be confused about it...
