Linking the article below from Dellenger saying CFB is circling a 24 team playoff.

We can discuss how terrible a move that is, because objectively it’s trash, but there is no chance the conference championship games survive if this passes no?

I personally think the conference championship is useless now. I feel like teams should play their walk ons and rest starters that whole time, as it really presents little benefit anymore.

Unless they move the scheduling of the playoff up to the end of regular season, I can see them keeping the SECCG for the $. This would reduce the chance of one of the participants missing the playoffs to near zero.

If they go to 24 teams, it would be meaningless. Just determine a regular season champ with tie breakers

fricking 12 is too many, to double that is just asinine

It’s amazing how much the sport has fallen off

Also, I can’t wait for it to come back

Champ games will probably go away, at least in the biggest conferences like the SEC and Big Ten.

College football is stupid now.

Who cares about this game now? It's a 2nd rate conference

The championship games still make a boatload of money, which is all these people and TV networks care about.

It’s already meaningless now that it’s at 12. Alabama ran for -3 yards and didn’t drop. Just be done with it.

It’s not meaningless in regards to Byes/seeding. Teams were rarely ever getting punished for playing an extra game in a 12 team playoff

I’ll never regret being vehemently against changing away from the 1998-2013 BCS model.

I never even liked the 4 team playoff.

Idk about 2 years but it's definitely going extinct soon.

Whenever you see coaches, admins, and media all saying "I think such and such should probably happen" it's usually already practically a done deal it's just a matter of time.

If the retards in charge decide to go to a 24 team playoff, conference championship games make absolutely no logical sense.

I'm one of the older folks here, and I doubt that I have two additional decades which is what it may take for the current collection of nonsenses to play out.

If there's money to be made, I will never predict the end of the SECCG.

If money is to be made, they will have this game, even if a precedent is set to where from time to time an SEC that is a contestant in that game will "forgo" and "pass" on playing the game in order to get ready for the playoffs.

It will be like passing on an opportunity to play in a Bowl Game.

The game will be played if there's money in it, IMHO, even if the two contestants are playing because the first choice to play declined the invitation to play.

In my opinion it depends on whether other networks will get rights to some of playoff games. No way Fox or CBS let their biggest games of the year go without suitable alternative to fill that time slot. I'm assuming the right's to CCG is part of their regular season package.

Last year CCG Big 10 18MM viewers and SEC 16MM viewers. These games aren't going away unless viewership drops off significantly.

I agree 12 is already too many. I disagree that the sport has fallen off. And I'd add that the post-season has always been the weak point of college football. But it has the best regular season of any sport/league.

I'd love to see the 2 worst conference records battle it out in a sickos bowl. They're already missing bowl season so they'd be incentivized to play & get those extra reps.

Not sure how to do this fairly though, if I'm the 3rd worst team, these teams would be getting extra reps that I'm not allowed to get

When you start having 4 loss teams in the playoffs, you shouldn’t have that playoff.

Yes but it’s nothing now but an extra game just to potentially get some of your best players hurt and potentially kill a teams chances in the playoffs because we still have to play an SEC championship game for some reason. It used to mean something back when teams were trying to get in the BCS title game or even the 4 team playoffs. Now, not so much.

I think fans are the only ones that think that. The coaches & players want to win the SEC
