I know it stretches from Chicago to Santa Monica. Is it a good drive? Any stretches you’d recommend for sightseeing?

Well, I traversed the 66 in Oklahoma a couple weeks back on business. Feel free to skip the Oklahoma portion.... nothing but wind and dust.

That movie hits way harder than it should.

I've only been on brief stretches of just to say I'd driven on Route 66.

My old man, however, remembers it well from his childhood. My grandparents travelled a lot out west visiting family before the interstate system was built, so they were on Route 66 often. He got to see it in its heyday.

Been on one little stretch in Williams, AZ. They have a couple of blocks where they have restored a gas station, diner, etc. to that mid 50s look.

Not a lot left of it in most places. Cool to see though.

Been on a couple of short stretches in Texas and New Mexico. Drove through Tucumcari on it. Tucumcari is filled with motels and diners from the 40s and 50s. Some are doing ok, many are shut down or looking like they will soon.

Most of it. Big chunks of old road aren't accessible or have disappeared.

The place from the movie cars is in Shamrock 40 mins east of Amarillo, Midpoint Cafe is 40 mins West of Amarillo. Get off 40 and go thru the small towns in TX panhandle and western OK if you want a better feel for that era. Some places its like time just stopped. Don't remember anything notable going thru OK.

My first apartment was off of 66 (Watson Rd) in St. Louis. Its just a road with strip malls on it. The only thing of note is Ted Drews. If frozen custard is your thing.
