This is really out of control in Texas and nationwide. The DEI hiring thats taken place for gov institutions for decades has us not even able to safely use our public services.

We have had multiple checks stolen in mail and chemically washed recently.

We know people who have hand delivered checks to the post office to be mailed, and even those are getting stolen and altered.

Anyone else dealing with this?

Checks are archaic - they literally list your account info on them which could be entered online in a million places to boot. Check washing is a $1B scam at least in the US and noone can find the folks committing the crimes, seems like most of them are illegals in certain areas.

You can get ink pens with ink that won't wash.

It’s absolutely awful! New Orleans and the surrounding area have to be the worst. I couldn’t get the fill in mail lady to take stamped letters the other day. She said she couldn’t take that kind of mail. We sometimes ship out products with USPS. Asking them to scan the parcels is like asking for a kidney. So now we print out a manifest and they still won’t scan that. I have contacted the station supervisor which changes weekly and the postmaster general here in Nola. For some reason, no one can get the carriers to do their job. It’s terrible. The women carriers are the worst. Lazy as hell!

If you are concerned about check washing, write them with a Uni-ball 207 gel pen with black ink.

The next step is using a fountain pen with De Atramentis document ink. That is the most secure ink I am aware of, and I have used it daily for documents and the rare checks I write.

Bank issued checks through online banking if you insist on still using checks.

You can also get checks that dont wash but they are expensive so the pen idea is a good one. We def avoid checks now as much as possible but some vendors still insist.

Positive pay is a good service BUT its very expensive as well.

Been going on for a while now. All you have to do is look at the people who work at the post office. It explains everything. It’s a shame because these jobs pay pretty well.

The landscaping and lawns at Post Offices in the last three cities I have lived in always look like crap. The government leases the buildings and there must be no requirements for the landlord to mow.

I'm starting to see the Federal government is a jobs program for African American women.

And really most government in general. If you need to interact with the administrative side of government, there will be a nice AA lady with a degree from a prestigious HBC that will be your gateway to the assistance you need.

So, you think black people are getting jobs at the post office so they can steal your checks?……damn, son!

I still paid some bills with a mailed check bc I didn’t trust online shite to not get hacked!

Plus I take a small enjoyment from writing out a check and dropping in the mailbox old school. I’m a weird guy.

Hasn't happened to us often, but my checks from work have been stolen/washed a time or two. I'm an accountant and some landscape company asked us about a past due invoice. We had record of it being sent out and cashed, and when we looked up the check image, they had changed it from the landscape company to some other random company name. When I looked at it, the font was different than what our software uses to print. Wasn't a ton of money, but the hassle of filling out a claim with the bank, issuing a new check to them, and everything else involved started pushing us more to ACH payments for any vendors that will accept them.

I said DEI and you go as straight to that, sounds like you have a particular bias bud!

Two yrs ago, we had 3 checks cashed in person at local banks that we did not write. Fortunately, we were expecting a large deposit so we were checking the account daily at the time. We were physically in our bank filing the fraud alert when the 3rd check was cashed. Crazy thing is the 3 checks were numbered perfectly in sync with where we were in our checkbook and those actual numbered checks were still in our checkbook.

Police were involved, the bank refunded our funds but when the police asked the bank for the videos of who cashed the checks, the bank stated they would not be sharing the videos without a court order. Makes me think it was an inside job and they were protecting their reputation.

I never would’ve thought about USPS worker “washing” checks. We really only write one check a month that we put in the mail so the odds aren’t great that’s what happened.
