Pony up, taxpayers!

Meta needs to be able to save all of your porn searches and they shouldn’t have to pay for it.

That would be unreasonable.

Nah, their CO2 emissions are harmless But if you eat a hamburger or set your AC colder than 85 you're destroying the planet.

It's not 7 power plants; it's a total of 9 new units; 3 of which will be co-located with existing facilities.

This is Entergy only. I'm not sure about what electricity providers in other parts of the state have in the pipeline. For sure there will be something around Shreveport to support the Amazon data center.

Entergy Louisiana announced plans last week to seek permission from the state Public Service Commission (PSC) to build seven new gas power plants to support Meta’s future $27-billion artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Richland Parish.

The request came less than a year after the PSC approved Entergy’s plan to install three power plants to provide 2,250 megawatts of electricity to the AI data center. The project would be the first considered under the PSC’s Lightning Amendment—a directive adopted last December to allow electricity connections for “large load” projects to be approved within eight months, if projects met certain criteria.

Entergy officials announced that Meta planned to fund the construction of seven new power plants that would generate more than 5,200 megawatts of electricity, some 240 miles of new 500 kV transmission lines connecting southern Louisiana to northern Louisiana and Arkansas, upgrade Entergy’s existing nuclear power plants, build up to 2,500 megawatts of solar farms and install batteries to store solar power across three locations to support the data center.

If approved by the PSC, the seven power plants and solar farms—in addition to the three power plants currently under construction—would generate nearly 10,000 megawatts of electricity for the AI data center.

quote:

“This agreement reflects what’s possible when strong partners align around long-term growth and value,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and chief executive officer. “Working with our customers, regulators and state leaders, we are making targeted investments that strengthen reliability, support economic development and deliver meaningful benefits to customers—all while keeping energy rates affordable, which aligns perfectly with Meta’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge and Entergy’s Fair Share Plus Pledge.”

quote:

According to Entergy, customers in Louisiana would see some $2.65 billion in savings if the PSC approved the plan because Meta has committed to contributing $120 million, including matching funds, for Entergy’s The Power to Care program; $140 million for energy efficiency initiatives for low-income customers; and support for incremental carbon-free nuclear energy solutions.

If it's anything like Elon's in Memphis, they use the dirtiest cheapest gas generators they can get their hands on and then lie about how many they are going to use at one time.

Bend over residential rate payers. Somehow this will make your rates go up.

There is no way the consumers won't get royally fricked in some fashion when all is said and done. I don't care what Entergy, Meta, or any government agency says.

Sunshine bridge was voted on by the tax payers and approved as part of the TIMED tax. Multiple projects were place on the bill after culling the list from 20 to 13.

Everyone complains about the Sunshine bridge, but your parents and grandparents approved it. The Baton Rouge Legislation never put a third baton rouge bridge on the list.

Ask yourself this question. Of all the locations that Meta could have chosen to build their data center, why did they pick Louisiana? Personally, I think Meta knows they can screw over Entergy to pay for the power plants. Then Entergy will turn around and screw Louisiana for the power plants.

They will build anywhere they can get a utility to guarantee them power. Right now very few areas of the country are willing to guarantee the power DC's are contractually requiring.
