Do you take offense to being called "bud" or "buddy"?

Polishing off a few afternoon beers with my friend. When we sat down at the bar, he asked for a Mich Ultra. Bartender kind of smirked and said "Sure thing, buddy." My friend got heated and said to not call him that. I asked why and he said he hates getting called bud or buddy by another grown man because it feels condescending and emasculating. He said that's some shite you say to a little kid. Me, I can see where he's coming from, but I don't think it's enough to get angry over. I'd rather be called something like baw, man or dude. What says the OT? Do you take offense to buddy? Are there any other colloquial addresses you can't stand?
