I prefer being called bud, buddy, or dude over Sir.
Sir makes me feel old.
But if someone says to me:
“Thanks dude”
I’m thinking “Right on..”.

Its not a term of endearment like buddy or brother. Most people hate their boss. Its also false deference and comes off as sarcastic and disrespectful. Especially boss man, which I usually hear from black guys.

I call my friends buddy or refer to them as my buddies, and I know at least one person who considers it a slur. Never understood it

Same here. I am absolutely horrible with remembering names and it seems to be getting worse the older I get. Every guy is either bud, buddy, or brother.
