Moar Masters: Speculation that this was the last year for the gnome figure

Rumored reasons: AGNC doesn’t like how demand has created long lines and rushes at the gift shop, and thinks the gnome is overshadowing the golf for some people.

I feel like no one gave a frick about the gnomes until a year or two ago. Never even knew that was a thing when I went to augusta in 2017.

I went recently and have never heard of the gnomes

Hopefully this is the beginning of ANGC dialing back some of this excessive shite that they never would’ve allowed up until the last few years.

Social media posts and Influencers are tarnishing Augusta
I never thought I’d see the day

Start by not inviting influencers like kelce and Kevin Hart

It’s popular for some reason.
I get wanting shirts, hats, flags, jacket and such. But a nome? Seems random?

Curious to see if the par 3 course will be another clown show next year. I think a lot of people were surprised at this years “influencer” coverage. Hopefully they roll it back severely.

I think the gnomes are cool for those people that like collectables. I think the demand for them has gotten out of control, kind of like the bobbleheads back in the day that you would get at a MLB game. I have a buddy that has collected them for the past 5 years and has them on display in his mancave. But, he's not posting them on tik-tok along with $10k in other crap he bought. From what I heard, this years line at the merch tent was the worst it's ever been and by Sunday, most everything was gone. I'm not sure what the fix is for it but if anyone can figure it out, definitely it's Augusta.

They weren't a thing in 2017. They did the first gnome in 2016 and didn't do one in 2017. They brought it back in 2018 through this year.
But to your point I was there in 2019 and had no idea they existed.

Augusta National - a group of ultra-capitalists running their organization in the most uncapitalist way possible.
"What's the report on the merchandise sales for this year's Masters?"
"Well, all items sold well, but one item - a yard gnome - sold incredibly well, so much so that there were very long queues forming just for the opportunity to buy one. We could probably charge ten times more for them than we currently do and they'd still sell out. Should I raise the price and increase the order size for next year?"
"Absolutely not! Cancel them completely and never sell them again."
I'm not complaining, mind you, I just find it funny.

Sell that crap online or at Walmart, and it will take care of itself. Ceasing production only helps speculators.

I stopped and chatted with one of the folks wearing a green jacket a few years back. I asked them how and why they keep concession costs so low. Their response was "Son, we don't need your money"
I thought that was pretty funny.

I know you aren't complaining, but that is their whole point with the club. These guys are all super successful, but they don't want to bring that aspect to their club. They want patrons to have the best day of their lives when they visit, which may be the only time they make it. They don't want people coming to Augusta to wait in long lines to buy stuff. That isn't what the experience is about.
In most circumstances, how people choose to enjoy their experience isn't the owner's concern. Here is it. They'd rather sacrifice the revenue on the gnomes to deter those kind of people from taking up valuable spots at the tournament.

Pretty common sense compromise
