So the U.S. is moving full tilt to modify draft registration. Why? What is the reason for this?
My view is that a military draft is utterly immoral regardless of the circumstances. If a war is not worth you dying in it or having your son or grandson die in it then it is not worth fighting.

The new rule, proposed by a government agency, would see men being registered automatically rather than being asked to do so themselves within 30 days of their 18th birthday.
Dudes are lucky. I had to go wait in line for fricking hours to register.

I don’t see how this is new. We were always required to register for selective service. If you aren’t you were actively trying to avoid it.

Oh... I know this...so we can go do Bibi's bidding around the world.
Did I do that right?

When did it become an option? Registering for selective service has been around forever.

Isnt alrdy the law?
I remember signing up as senior because i had to.
I don't get this story that is getting circulated last couple of days. Seems nice to have it automatically happen. The internet has made people so stupid.

Anyone who supports the war should be required to send their son or daughter off to the sandpit.
Pretty sure my dumbass boomer fox news propaganda addicted dad would send me off in a heartbeat though.
Boomers really are tWOAT

As goofy as it is, I agree that if you serve in the military it should help your asylum / citizenship case.

It's something you have to do, yes, and the article mentions saving millions on reminders to them. The timing of it is just unfortunate.

When American males turn 18 they would be automatically registered for the draft rather than having to be sure that they didn't omit doing something required by law when they are probably graduating high school and entering college, the work force, or both. It is less worrisome than the "Motor-Voter" laws that many states have that automatically registers new drivers of the age of 18 and over to vote.
I have no issue with this automatic draft registration at all.
What about it, exactly, that causes you concern?

I registered through the mail.

So the U.S. is moving full tilt to modify draft registration. Why?
Which, of course, begs the question, why would any "US male between the ages of 18 and 25" be upset about "shifting the responsibility away from individuals," unless said males intended to dodge the draft by not signing up, in the remotest of events the draft was reinstated.

This is a nothing burger. Have to sign up anyway.

You have to have registered by 26 to work for the federal government or many federal contractors. People have lost jobs because they "forgot" to register.
I think the selective service registry should be shut down since a draft in very unlikely. They could just pull the data from social security if we ever needed it.
