So why did we overpay Etienne so much?

This is the one signing that left a bad taste in my mouth. Seemed like Jacksonville had been trying to replace him the last few years. Not sure they made any effort to even re-sign him. He had a bad year the year before and lost snaps to other running backs.

We gonna pay him 13 a year while Rico Dowdle who had almost the exact same numbers as him but with a much better ypc the last two years, will make exactly half of what we paying him. Dowdles last two seasons were actually much better than Etiennes.

And they are the same age. Not saying Dowdle is better but Etienne is definitely not double the cost better. Pretty crazy to me.

They did because he's barely above average. He's not elite. He and Kenneth Walker were both a bit overpaid because there's not many above average RBs available, but the reality is the difference between him & JK Dobbins is 4mil

That difference is neglible when comparing an elite edge rusher, pass protector, prime position.

Here is the thing … yes you can display the stats that make this seem like a huge overpay … but in the end Kellen Moore clearly identified Travis wanted Travis and got Travis onto the saints … right now Kellen Moore still gets the benefit of the doubt

Love won't be there at #8 and getting a good RB in free agency is hard once him and Walker are off the board.

Not every NFL signing is going to be a “deal” in your eyes. Go touch grass.

I'm reluctant to respond to another sad troll by OP (what must he be like in real life?) but the real answer has to do with the position. RB is so undervalued, it's now a bargain to overpay for top FA. We paid Travis Etienne less than Todd Gurley got 10 years ago when the cap nearly half what it is now.

It's a cheat code to pay a top RB free agent for less than you have pay a #3 WR. Compare the impact to your team! Look at the teams that have done this - off the top of my head there are the Eagles, 49ers, Chiefs. These are not dumb franchises. If you can't draft a star RB, "overpaying" for one is the smart move. It's still a bargain.

First day. Over pay. Or wait till they are gone. Next year he will be the 15 -20th paid rb.

You’re probably right but Dowdle doesn’t have the big play ability as Etienne and I think the Saint see some untapped potential in Etienne. Hes never really looked like the guy at Clemson in the Jags offense

Bro, 13mil is chump change in today’s NFL market. This ain’t nothing to be getting upset over

lol

Liam Coen comes to the team in 2025:

-Etienne goes from 189 touches in 24' to 296 touches in 25'.

-Jags record flips from 4-13 to 13-4.

Even IF Etienne mysteriously doesn’t work out and never gains a single yard for the Saints, $12 million a year is not going to hurt this team at all

Who cares. We weren’t getting Love and got the best guy on the market who loves the Saints and is a high character person.

If Moore thinks he is the correct RB for his system, then I am all for it. Until proven otherwise.

Etienne has been on a rookie deal, if they wanted to replace him they could have.

We should’ve ran it back with Estime so we could find a running back in 2028

Not sure what’s going to happen with Kamara, but this year we paying two running backs top 7 money.

That’s kinda ludicrous for that position when historically you can find running backs almost anywhere as long as your oline is good.

That’s really cute you think the record flipped just b/c of Etienne. Jesus.

Nothing to do with a massive improvement in their defense and him working his magic on Lawrence.
