This tracked the amount of people moving from and to states for net migration. LA’s 3,000 is minimal, but probably the first time in a while we’ve gained. I’m surprised to see states like MN and WI with net gains as well. Overall, the southeast and mountain west continue to be the two big winners in migration.

We gained a little in 2024 too. That was the first time in many years we didn’t lose population. Maybe the start of a little trend. That Katrina year really messed with the data though.

While neither our public education system nor job creation has ever been stellar, our cost of living is very low. I've always though North La should try to come up with some way to package that to appeal to retirees.

That's good, but it is based on one specific source. Similarly Atlas has us with net outstate migration.

Putting the copious amounts of negativity regarding Louisiana aside, the state has capital investments totaling $92 Billion since 2024 - which is impressive. There appears to be continued momentum from LED which will lead to more opportunity for the state.
Not sure we have the workforce to support the growth.

Landry is also calling for an end to the state income tax. That has worked well for Texas and other no-tax states.

Because it's still bad. Being 43rd out of 50 instead of 49th or 50th is an improvement but it's not going to be a draw for businesses.
A lot of that is determined by demographics instead of actual quality of education. Public schools divide kids into catagories like "Advanced, General and Basic". It's essentially: 'College Prep, HS grad then off to work, Illiterate.' If you have a high population of basic students in your state then scores are gonna be lower.
I went to a very large public HS in La. and in 9th grade we had at least 300 students who were just waiting for their birthday so they could legally drop out of school.

We'll see if it holds after the ICE deportations.

As long as you don't need to insure a home or vehicle/driver.

That's pretty much everywhere along the gulf coast, especially below I-10. Natchitoches or Monroe can be half of what's being paid for a similarly valued home in Metairie.

Point earned.

I think Ruston already sees a little bit of this with retirees moving in. Minden, and probably a few other smaller towns, in North Louisiana are getting some of these retirees too. Definitely low on the cost of living, and the homeowners insurance is not nearly as bad as South Louisiana tends to be.

Louisiana has had a significant increase in new large-scale projects which have been built or are in the process of being built which has brought in a lot of new workers into the state.

Why?
What you see on cable news out of Minneapolis and Milwaukee are not reflective of life in either state. The suburbs and exurbs up there have some of the highest standards of living in the country (schools, geography and outdoors, demographics, healthcare etc).
