Gov. Jeff Landry calls for Louisiana to get rid of inspection stickers

“I think it’s time to retire the inspection sticker,” Landry told state lawmakers.
His call to end the “nagging debate” about the inspection sticker was met with applause.
“The traditional vehicle inspection sticker process is annoying, it’s inconvenient, it serves little value to the safety of our roads,” Landry said.
Instead of vehicles needing an inspection sticker, Landry said they will instead get a QR code costing $6 “that will be capable of providing instant information to law enforcement about the ownership, year, make, model and eventually, we hope, insurance coverage information.”
Landry said the QR code will be “cheaper and certainly less frustrating than waiting in line to pay $10.”

I'd 100% support a QR code to catch uninsured motorists if the police were actively pursuing.
It eats me up that I have to pay $1k+ per year to cover deadbeats without insurance.

$6 bucks isn't getting me to the sticker station either. My car is the same car before the sticker or after the sticker.

13 states currently have no inspection sticker requirements and the number has been increasing a little bit each year.
Numerous states inspection stickers are required only in certain areas or counties.
Many states and or counties have done away with the EVAP testing requirement.
It's coming...we just need to be patient.
Just like constitutional concealed carry which is now the law in 29 states.
Just 10 years ago it was the law in only a few.
Times are changing. Less government control and more personal responsibilty are on the horizon. Just hope I live long enough to see it.

They can already find all this with the license plate. There is no need for the sticker.
I’m betting his $6 QR code is so the money keeps going to the State Police so they won’t retry and kill the legislation.

What is this purpose when any cop pulling you over will undoubtedly still ask you for your license reg insurance? All of which is already available and not needed through a QR code

Cheaper maybe, however how is all of this information being provided and updated? During the vehicle purchase process? What if I change insurance providers? Do I need to create an account with whatever state agency is running this?

This is a loaf of BS. The $6 annual fee is just to keep the revenue stream for the state. There's a big identity code attached to everyone's car called a license plate that already has all the info he's talking about.

First you need cops that will actually “nab” them. I haven’t seen any traffic enforcement since before Covid. And as someone already pointed out, plate readers can give them that info already.
But all we’re doing is replacing one sticker with another. Which one of Landry’s cronies has a QR card business? That’s the only reason this little turd wants a change. LSP isn’t giving up a revenue stream so unless it’s a zero sum change, I doubt anything happens.
Stickers, QR cards, the entire “inspection” process needs to be abandoned. The only people abiding by it are the ones who maintain their vehicles anyway. Just another tax on the responsible citizens.
