I am absolutely sick of every major former "premium" brand moving most if not all of their manufacturing to China. I will not buy this crap, they are 100% playing the long game on us. It's all Wall Street/CEO fueled greed coupled with Union bullshite. None of it ever becomes any cheaper. If I need something and dont want to wait to order it I will look for a Taiwan or Vietnam manufactured item. Yes I know I can go online and find something. Its the principle of it, these major classic American brands - just a tiny few are.

Ames - really pissed me off as they have a big "U.S. Pat." stamp on their tools made in China
Corona
Klein - lots of new Chinese crap
Milwaukee

I dont even care if the quality is the same, if I were Dictator any classic U.S. brand made in China would have to be clearly rebranded, for example the shovel would say "Ames China"

Now get off my lawn while I scream at the sky.

ETA - I also blame lazy arse Union workers - just as guilty as management.

I wish people had a lot less.

It blows my mind what people spend money on.

Caterpillar used to make most of their construction equipment in Peoria Illinois.

Walk around new equipment today and see they are made everywhere BUT Peoria.

Cat gets cheap labor to build them, then they send them over here at little or no savings to the consumer. Caterpillar pockets the labor savings while Americans are laid off. Its a model that works good for Cat and others until the US gets depleted of wealth.

Even if something says "made in USA" it often means the manufacturer is doing the bare minimum in the states to get that. Taking boxes of Chinese junk and screwing it together.

All unions do is act in the best interest of the U.S. workers, just as corporate acts in the best interest of maximizing profits and don't give a rat's arse about U.S. workers. In a perfect world, neither would exist, but we don't live in that world. People are generally pieces of shite and will take advantage of both ends of the spectrum.

Even parts that say assembled in the US, it's often the bare minimum allowed to be able to declare that. Components were made overseas.

I have got to be honest. These examples are way below my pay level.

But seriously, I understand the concerns.

I invested in a small manufacturing company located in Champaign, IL. They chose that spot because it had a big history of manufacturing but a lot of unemployment due to plant shutdowns from offshoring like you describe.

And they are able to hire all they need of reasonably priced American labor. I can’t remember the entry pay. I asked them when I visited about six months ago and I remember thinking it was a fairly good entry wage.

The problem with Made in the USA is that everyone has principles until their own pocketbook is involved.
