In WW2 we firebombed millions and then cluster bombed the rescuers

We napalmed every major city in Japan, some several times, with the exception of a handful. After the first wave of napalm we then followed up with cluster bomb munitions to kill any rescuers or firefighters.
Know why we left a handful in pristine condition? Cause we knew we would have the bombs (both types) soon and wanted to be able to go in after and see how many we racked and stacked.

There was no need for the made-up part of cluster bombs to kill the firemen.
Fire-bombing starts fire storms which sucks oxygen out of the air.
Also the Japanese firefighting equipment does not have the manpower or any modern equipment, these are mostly hand pumped. And far apart and very few, Japan was way behind most nations by 1945 on the ability to fight fires, much less a firestorm.

The Japanese kind of made it hard for us not to. They interspersed the factories they used to make weapons of war inside densely populated civilian neighborhoods. These civilians worked at said factories and helped the Japanese war effort by building the weapons that their military would then use to kill Allied servicemen.
In Europe, most of the factories were isolated to a single area of the city that would be relatively distant from civilian housing. However, you still had bombing raids like Dresden and Hamburg where we would deliberately target civilians.

Well - we were then at war with the whole nation - not just the ruling class.
Whether 'right' or not, it was necessary unless we wanted to pile up millions of dead Americans on their shores - with the only other option being = well excuse us - we'll just go home now and lick our wounds while burying our dead.
Life comes at you in the present - not in some artificial 'wonderland setting' - we have to be willing to do what is necessary to be able to continue our concept of civil existence - or just toss in the towel and allow our enemy to dictate our future living conditions.
This ain't a movie - we didn't even write the script if it WAS a movie - we have to do what we can within the bounds of our conscience, tempered with our dedication to existing into the next generation.
If other nations are not happy with that concept of our character, then they ought to be cautious about poking the dragon.

Yes war is hell.
But the comparison of the two doesn't fit.
For the one we were trying to break the will and spirit of the Japanese people.
Here we don't want to break the will of the civilian population. We want to break the will of the irgc.
A more apt comparison would be the Iranian regime vs trump.
The one murdered over 30,000 people intentionally. On the other hand you may have had an accident where a school was hit that was right next to an irgc area.
The Iranian regime making anything out of this is just crazy.

This is exactly the type of scenario that creates the new wave and next generation of anti-American Muslim extremists.
Japan did not have that sort of threat.
Trying to spin this as having no future impact is ignorant to history. You can call the Islamic extremists irrational or hypocrites all you want. They won't care as they engage in terrorism.
