Canada set to surpass 100,000 assisted suicides — more than the country’s WWII death toll

Canada is set to pass a grim milestone in its medically-assisted suicide program with a total of 100,000 citizens projected to be euthanized by the government before its 10th anniversary on June 17.
The Great White North’s MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) program will soon cross the sickly six-figure threshold, according to The National Post.
Ottawa’s most recent data shows 15,767 Canadians were euthanized by the state in 2024 — 5.1% of all deaths in the nation that year.
About 45 Canucks per day are being euthanized, according to the report.
In 2021, a total of 9,842 Canadian people were euthanized.
Only 2,000 shelter dogs in Canada were put down that year, according to The Vet Desk.
As of 2024, total MAID deaths reached 76,475 citizens, nearly twice the 42,042 of Canadians who died in battle during World War II, according to the Canadian War Museum.
New York recently adopted its own version of the controversial program, the Medical Aid in Dying Act — which religious leaders have called a “societal failing.”
“The proliferation of assisted suicide in Canada is a human tragedy and societal failing — one that New York is on track to duplicate,” said Dennis Poust of the New York State Catholic Conference and a spokesman for New York Archbishop Ronald Hicks on public policy matters.
“Canada’s program is indeed a warning, one we pointed to again and again as a harbinger of New York’s future when appealing to lawmakers and the governor,” he said. “What starts out as a ‘choice’ quickly becomes an expectation for patients, especially the poor and underinsured and people with disabilities. Tragically, this is what we can expect here.”
The controversial program has come under renewed scrutiny after reports of same-day approval for MAID applications and claims that patients were pressured to needlessly end their life while suffering from depression.
The family of 26-year-old Kiano Vafaeian are calling for reforms after their son, who had Type 1 diabetes, who suffered seasonal depression and had vision problems, was approved for the suicide procedure and euthanized on Dec. 30, 2025, in British Columbia.

1. Didn’t realize Canada participated in WW2
2. Those numbers are astounding, and I am one who fully supports assisted suicides for terminal illness/end of live

Basically China convinced Canada to kill 100,000 of their citizens while they were doing the same to our country but with Fentanyl
But Trump is being way too mean and bully to China.

Its kind of astounding you believe it, or any decision lole this, ends there. It never can. Not with humans. Once you allow someone to define "my life is over, I cant live anymore," you not only allow it for others and their own definition, but you incentive it.
I know you'll say, "but they need to have an actual terminal illness," but on what scale? On what timeliness of death?
Humans dont limit their passions. And that goes to both the ones getting euthanized and the ones who benefit from it.
I get your perspective, but it lacks any true understanding of the world.

I wish it said the median and mean ages or something. If these are all over 75 it's not super concerning. I'm not familiar with their law to qualify. The only pointed to one case which at 26 is would hope is an outlier, not the norm.

Canada’s version is dystopian. Basically many physically healthy people with depression see doctors that have $$ incentives to recommend they commit suicide. Families are left out of the discussion and unable to advocate for their loved ones.

Not the reality. But blaming the ChiComs always sounds good.
The truth is more like Canada's tyrannical, insane, satanic has gone full retard in its hatred and brainwashing of it's own citizens. A broader sinister agenda is afoot.
"Fentanyl" in the US is NOT a "China-did-it" thing either. Enemies from Within across the board can be blamed.

Per google:
The median age of individuals receiving Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) in Canada is approximately 77 to 78 years old, based on 2023–2024 data.
Also per google:
As of recent data (2022-2023), the average life expectancy at birth in Canada is approximately 81 to 82 years, with a notable, sustained decrease over the past three years. Women generally have a higher life expectancy (approx. 84 years) compared to men (approx. 79-80 years)
While concerning, the way the data was presented in the OP was a bit misleading.

If someone wants to die let them. I don’t care what other people want to do and I certainly wouldn’t sit around and rot away with a terminal illness like some forms of cancer that are very aggressive and brutal I would rather go out with some dignity. Who cares what Canadians are doing?

More misleading than your claims to be pro-life...

Wonder what the profit incentive for referral for this is?
I mean it wouldn’t take much. Slap a couple of $2 100mcg fentanyl patch on an opioid naive person and shut down their respiratory system and they’d die pretty peacefully in their sleep

This is what the cult of anti-Christian materialism does. It robs people of hope and encourages them to kill themselves rather than seek to live for God’s glory.
Christianity is the answer.
Christianity is the answer.

Probably because of the short days and winter blues.

They were granted independence from Britain on April 17, 1982, and Britain ofc fought in WW2.

At this rate, there won't be anyone left to keep Trump from taking it over without a shot.
(Alberta would surrender quicker than France. Saskatchewan and Manitoba might join them on day one.)

I hate to seem callous, but it’s a good start.

I’m pro-life from conception to natural death. I don’t make exceptions for state-sanctioned murder or vengeance.
