Two games within two hours of each other today, one for my son (bball) and one for my daughter (soccer) resulting in two losses. One was an avalanche brought on by some really shitty luck, one was a "blew it in the 4th quarter" kinda deal with plenty of its own bad luck.

Two kids left sobbing and searching for answers after their games and all Daddy-o here can do is offer them some ice cream and let 'em spill their guts. Then try to remind them why they play at all.

And all I can think of is knocking back some hard liquor but I gave up alcohol for Lent. Goddammit

Commiserate with me fellow parents and tell me your tales of crushed dreams. How do you handle disappointing youth sports results? None of it really matters of course but try telling that to a kid who's bumped and bruised with nothing to show for it.

I didn’t care about playing well in Little League. All I knew is that I was getting a free snow cone after the game.

“How many outs?"

“GRAPE! I'm gonna get grape! Or cherry.

They're both favorites, so either one is good, but if they have both, I'll get grape, because grape is a little more favorite.

But if they don't have grape it's like alright its fine, cause cherry's favorite anyway. It's like another favorite, but not as much. Not as much favorite. But they're both good. They're both good

Well my daughter's u9 rec league soccer team somehow got scheduled with a u12 competitive team and lost 22-0 today, with the other team having to pass 3 times before being able to get a shot off

That's some bs

Explaining to them that that is just how it goes in sports.

Drives me crazy how they don’t teach winning and losing in soccer with my kids until 9+ years old.

Losing sucks but when they get a taste of a big win, it’s so exhilarating, they forget about the pain of losing.

We played travel ball a few years back but tried to limit it to DFW.

Well "DFW" is a huge area.

Never failed we would screw up Saturday so we would have an 8:00 am game an hour away on Sunday Morning.

Get up at 6:00 am to get ready, eat, then drive an hour to get beat, turn around and drive an hour home.

My daughter’s soccer team has lost every finals they’ve ever been to. She handles it exceedingly well and I know when they finally get one it’s going to mean a lot more. It’s definitely made her more self motivated and that’s all you can really ask for out of youth sports.

For youth sports? Hate to see when you face some real adversity.

Adversity is good for kids imo. That being said, the every weekend having a tournament champion is the issue.

I Just think sports should culminate to something more than just a Saturday and Sunday where you will just do it all again next Saturday and Sunday.

Why are your kids sobbing over losing a game? I have 3 all in sports. All competitive and want to win more than me but i have never seen any of them cry after a strike out or loss. Stop raising your kids to be large vaginas. It will help them in life

The first year my daughter played club soccer, we played a team from ATL that was a couple divisions higher than us. They were up 3-0 like 10 minutes in. After that, their coach said they couldn’t shoot unless they met 2 conditions. Every player had to touch the ball 1-11 starting with the keeper, and no one got more than two touches. They had to reset back to the keeper if anyone got more than two touches or anyone got a touch after giving up the ball. Then the shooter had to shoot with their off foot. They scored 5 more goals and we lost 8-0. It was unreal.
