GPAs are so artificially inflated these days they should require test scores for everyone.

You’re in luck…

At first, the new test requirement policy will apply only to students with GPAs below 3.5, but then for all applicants starting with the summer 2028 semester.

The DSAs will get to the first girl, showing her cherry picked stats and browbeat her back in line opposing standard test requirements

They should require a minimum (LSU is not requiring a minimum) and require the score and the GPA to get calculated together to use a properly weighted result of the two for admissions & scholarships and not just keep it separated out as one of many attributes the committee looks at.

They should have also started it in full for 2027 instead of in 2028. For 2027 they are just requiring it for below 3.5 GPAs when 3.5 to 4.0 GPA is where most of the inflated issues are with admissions, honors admissions, and LSU administered scholarships. Just requiring the test for 3.49 and below would have only affected 24% of the fall 2024 freshmen class enrollees.

I am glad something was done, but in actuality it seems so watered and purposely delaying the full implementation by a year to 2028 to allow one additional class where most do not have to submit scores still in 2027 for admissions or scholarships (2026 will be admitted and granted scholarships under the exact same voluntary rules as before as offers and acceptances have already happened).

I feel like it’s designed to make it look like they are listening while continuing goal to keep whites as the plurality not the majority in each incoming freshman class like the last 2 fall classes. With 2026 likely having same trend as last few years and then 2027 just being minimally impacted by requirement this could push 4 incoming classes in a row with whites as the plurality which would obviously push whites to the plurality for the entire undergraduate enrollment.

My impression from the first girls statement is that she has noticed there are people there that aren't necessarily serious about school

It was required to send ACT score

I homeschool my kids, so LSU has always required the ACT score for us

Which - I can see since not everyone homeschools the same and there could be questions about how work is graded. But those same questions could be asked about any school.

There’s a poster from the thread yesterday who needs to come apologize. He was melting about the 3.5 thing and didn’t realize all students would require it in 28

Standardized tests give us a common "standard" basis to compare applicants.

I could have a 4.3 from Istrouma, and that wouldn't mean nearly as much as a 3.5 from from a public school in Ann Arbor

It was used as a benchmark for keeping out kids who needed remedial math. Based on stats, most kids who scored below a 20 in math needed some type of remedial math in order to move on to college algebra. It saved the university a lot of money and dramatically increased the graduation rate without having to lower the goalposts in other classes.

The frustrating thing is that language like this has been in every article run on the subject. Now, I get that people can’t read every single article, but at which point someone sees a headline or blurb that actually upsets them, you would think they would take the three minutes out of their day to see if it’s worth getting upset about
