BAFTA Film Awards host Alan Cumming thanked the audience for their understanding on Sunday night after a number of outbursts from Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson during the show.

Davidson, who is the inspiration for BAFTA-nominated movie “I Swear,” was diagnosed with the syndrome at the age of 25. His symptoms, which first began when he was 12, include tics and uncontrollable outbursts, often involving cursing.

A number of outbursts could be heard throughout the BAFTA ceremony, including “shut the frick up” being shouted during an introductory speech from BAFTA chair Sara Putt and “frick you” when the directors of “Boong,” which won the BAFTA for best children’s and family film, accepted their award. During another outburst, the audience inside the BAFTAs heard Davidson shout the N-word when Michael B, Jordan and Delroy Lindo presented the award for best visual effects to “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”

I can go one better. One day someone on a site I frequent asked for your favorite go-to late night snack and I responded "Peanut butter and jelly on crackers" and the word cracker was censored by the admins.

The lunacy is out there and real.

Davidson shouted, “Boring!” while guests were taken through some of the housekeeping rules before the show began, and “bullshite!” when people were asked not to curse.

quote:

Sinners’ production designer, Hannah Beachler, took to social media after the show. “I keep trying to write about what happened at the BAFTAs, and I can’t find the words,” she wrote on X. “The situation is almost impossible, but it happened 3 times that night, and one of the three times was directed at myself on the way to dinner after the show,” she added about Davidson’s tics. “I understand and deeply know why this is an impossible situation. I know we must handle this with grace and continue to push through. But what made the situation worse was the throw away apology of ‘if you were offended.’”

I'm at work and can't get on Facebook, but the video is on the NewsOne page. Dude yells it out as MBJ and Delroy is presenting.

Delroy looks surprised, pauses and they move on. The N word is very audibly heard and it sounds like he yells, bitch too.

Jamie Foxx is all up in arms about this. My opinion is that if you have Tourette’s and are known to blurt out curse and offensive words, you should prolly stay home.

Apparently he was there to be honored for his film...about being accepted in public despite his tourette's diagnosis. I don't think they should have to lock themselves away so no one ever gets offended by tics that aren't directed at anyone. If you're not mature enough to handle bad words that are part of someone's medical issue, maybe you're the one who should stay home.

Tourette's activists might be better actively representing themselves at a Lil John concert instead.

I find it hard to believe these vocalizations don't reflect their thoughts. I know they're involuntary but its had to have crossed their minds at some point. Or they've heard it.
