Indiana, ND Coaches Laud Tigers Approach
Sounds so simple, so why doesn’t everybody do it? It takes the ability to coach it, sell the players on it, and have the players buy in.

It doesn't sound simple at all.
To have that kind of pitch recognition and plate discipline across the board is damn near impossible.

Well, there you have it. Nicolastiger, believe yet?

As Clausewitz might say - Everything in baseball is simple, but the simplest thing is difficult.

I think Jay has always had players that have been very good at this approach, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen an entire lineup be that good at it.

Simple doesn't mean easy.

it's not so much coaching as it is ability. This is what good hitters do regardless if "coached" to do so.
It's also much easier to do when the pitching is meh. Though the ND reliever did get a few ugly swing and misses.

Even IF you have all that, which is sort of the easy part, having the hand speed to do something about it amazes me.
Consistent hitting from the back half of the plate is insane.

I think some of it is coaching them up and some is Jay recognizing that ability/skill when recruiting hitters.

It is simple. It’s just not easy.

Part of it is having a stacked roster. It's a lot less difficult to get kids not to swing when they know there is a future mlb draft pick right behind them waiting for their opportunity to do exactly what Coach Johnson wants them to do.

Baseball is a simple, cruel game.
It's the hardness that makes you love it.

It’s 100% coaching and system
There’s a reason they’re so few and far between

Several players have used the words "we have been trained this way" ( being patient). So, yes, it IS coaching. The players' talents also factor in obviously, but as with everything to do with his program, it all starts with 2 time National Coach of the Year Jay Johnson.

You left out the main thing. You’ve got to have the players.

The key to hitting is one simple word.
Recognition.
The great hitters recognize the pitch before the others. As ability to recognize goes down, the game passes you.
