Some of yall know we have a Cajun restaurant in Liverpool, and it’s going well.
We like to scope out our competition, and subscribe and dine at their places.
Mother’s Day over there is March 15th. Today, I got this email from Hickory’s, an incredibly subpar “American” BBQ chain:
Wondering what other sensitive dates would include?
Veterans Day?
Valentine’s Day?
MLK?

We'll still keep you up to date with everything else BBQ.

lol I guess they are saying that some folks with a dead mother don’t want to hear about Mother’s Day but still a weird thing to send out.

this is not an "english" thing...i've received the same thing from restaurants i've dined at previously here in the u.s.
i think it's kind of pointless, because asking if you want to opt out still brings the subject up if it's a sensitive topic for some reason...

Nah thats a pretty standard approach/email for businesses because for those who have miscarried or struggle with fertility, Mothers Day can be potentially upsetting.

Could be an infertility thing.

You should open a sandwich shop called Aloha Snackbar.

Any holiday can be potentially upsetting to someone out there who has an associated trauma.
The only answer is to stop celebrating holidays because you just never know.

How about Independence Day

Even worse, a wife who is struggling to have kids or a mother who has lost a child. Every year Mother's Day becomes a living hell for them!

We should just cancel all holidays, awareness days and months, etc to potentially not trigger anyone ever. We could also outlaw talking about those things. That's way better and easier than people learning to deal with life.

Y’all need to send out an email blast every April 20th to your Liverpool clientele telling them to come in to your American-owned and themed establishment that day as a way of thanking all of America otherwise they’d have to sing Happy Birthday to Hitler that day.

That’s the logical conclusion if you extrapolate this line of thinking.
But this isn’t about thinking or logic. It’s about emotions surrounding virtue signaling.
It’s a business model, just not a very good one.

Ehh I kinda get it. I lost my lady, to cancer, will be 6 years ago on Mother’s Day and it’s still hard as hell for the kids.

I usually enjoy your posts about the restaurant but calling your customer base pussies and calling out another restaurant is not a great look when you’re not that anonymous here.

That's what the spam folder is for.

My point is/was what other holidays fall under “sensitive dates” over there?
Veterans?
Fathers?
Valentine’s?
Like, when and where does it stop?
I get how Father’s Day, Mother’s Day could be “upsetting”, but their collective sensitivity is on another level.

But they usually do it further in advance, and you only have to opt out once, as opposed to year after year.
