Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary told CNBC that his view is that “everything should be over-the-counter” unless a drug is unsafe, addictive or requires monitoring.
He said the FDA is going through “the proper regulatory processes” to update OTC monographs – rulebooks that determine which drugs can be sold without a prescription – and is looking at prescription drugs like nausea medications and vaginal estrogen.

This will significantly speed up the use of AI in medicine.

I hope they consider antibiotics a class of drugs that needs monitoring.

Make sudafed available on the shelf again.
Nothing pisses me off more than having to stand in a line 8 people deep at the pharmacy counter because we all have to be treated as if we're going to make meth with it. Allergies have been horrible this year and I've had to wait in line for 45 min or more multiple times.

Sadly, my meth lab has been dormant for over a year, Sudafed in large quantities was a hassle to obtain and store…

I’m thinking the AMA will fight this pretty hard.

Physicians and pharmacists will fight this tooth and nail, not for your safety but for their professions.

How will this be determined?

Antibiotics will never, and should never, be over the counter. There will be superbugs in like a week.

No problem with them prescribing what they are told to prescribe.

No… you can buy them over the counter now(I won’t say where because you obviously don’t know)… but everywhere else on Earth sell antibiotics over the counter

Amateur.
You either steal the raw ingredient in a 55-gallon drum by robbing a chemical distributor, or you conduct a heist of a train out in the desert by pumping it into a tanker truck.

Even that colon blow stuff?
I’ve always wondered why a prescription is needed for a product that works so well and doesn’t seem to have addictive properties.
