3 games played. 24 IP, 15 runs given up. ERA of 5.62!! Currently ranked 152 in the nation!! Is this a concern? Stats don’t lie. [embed]https://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/team/211[/embed]

quote:No, not at this point. Lots of experimentation and basically... try outs. If it continues after the rotation is set, then yes.
Is this a concern?

Are you seriously concerned, four games in to the season? Have you not watched how Jay manages the season?

Must not have watch Skip early in the season.

Basically Moore was the only pitcher to last as long as a normal outing and we did decent. Wait until the other starters last 5-6 innings before pushing the panic button.

Sigh….
4 games into the season……

Jay is tinckering like he always does. No reason to be concerned yet it is a long season and we really won't know what the team is until SEC play. Jay will find the guys he can rely on to field a productive team.

We just played 4 games in 4 days. Most teams didn't and having to pitch 4 days straight means you'll have to use effectively all of your arms just to get through, especially early in the season when you're not stretching anyone out. That's a feature not a bug for Jay. He wants to get all his guys a chance to pitch. But it does mean that you're going to be more likely to give up runs. There is a mild bit of concern that even some of our top arms weren't exactly dominant, but overall I think the staff did fine. It's early season. Let's reevaluate in a few weeks

Not really. These 8 games in 10 days are going to test our staff but should pay huge dividends early in SEC play.
Skip always said you need to figure out the 10-12 guys you can trust by tax day.
With this unprecedented early slate of games Jay may figure that out by April fools

There's a ton for Jay to evaluate now that they are facing live bullets. All part of the plan.

Shut up bitch it’s week one. 4-0 doesn’t lie

Not at all. At this point in the season it’s about getting guys reps and finding the ones that can be counted on during SEC weekends.

I remember one year in the 90’s, one of Skip’s teams gave up something insane like 20 something runs to Ole Miss or Mississippi State in the old Alex Box. It was crazy, and nothing he tried worked. I think I remember him pulling left and center fielders so they could pitch - he was like frick it let’s try this shite and see what happens
.
Maybe I’m not remembering 100% accurately but it was a shite ton of runs and he definitely went through the entire pitching staff to see if anyone could stop them.
Skip won a ton of titles. Jay has won two so far and he experiments with these small programs at the start of every season to get real-game scenario practice for the boys.
I have 100% confidence in Jay and he has earned that trust from every fan. Sit back, relax, and watch baseball. The team will be fine.

Stats do lie based on a small sample size.
Also they are giving everybody a chance right now to see what their roles are. In situations that really matter, I don’t think Sheerin and Rizy will get pulled as quickly for Primeaux and Fontenot.
I like what I see from both Coopers, Sheerin, Rizy, and Guidry. While Evans, Cowan and Noot weren’t particularly sharp, I don’t think they were terrible either, and based on past history, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. I think Paz looked decent for a freshman in his first outing. We haven’t even seen Zion or Ricken yet. I think we will be able to find enough reliable arms from that group.

Runs arent concerning. The high walk totals are very concerning.

Jay, just like Skip, uses most of the regular season as a try out for playoffs
