If Jay can go on a Skip Bertman type of run, he has a chance to get us tied, or possibly overtake USC for most all time.

He's young enough to get 5 more.

If he manages to repeat this year, it's definitely a goal he should set for himself.

Overtake the all time record and pass Skip in total Titles.

Gonna be interesting to watch how his career pans out.

1998 is the difference to keep it from being 11-9

Or you can look at 2009 as being the difference with Texas 8-6 instead of 7-7.

In 2009 LSU (5) was playing Texas (6) for the title. Texas was second all-time to USC (12). LSU and Texas would have been tied at seven had that gone differently, but LSU has put a little distance between themselves and the Longhorns , and are starting to close in on what seemed an unreachable USC record.

That’s not really a thing.

Those USC titles are ancient history.

not really, they owned the70s, which leads right up to just before Skip got here, and which is where most of you whippersnappers think college baseball began, I was on LSU teams in the 70s when it was absolutely nothing at LSU, our coach was a football equipment supervisor and car salesman, you can’t ignore what they did just because it doesn’t fit your fairy tale

All LSU baseball fans know that college baseball didn’t exist until 1986

I probably saw you play. I remember a few names from then: Kenny Klug, Dominic Giambrone.

You kind of make his point with the car salesman details. Those USC titles were when no one cared about the sport. No one invested in it. There was no competition. By the time skip won his first title there were a decent number of teams competing. By the end of skips tenure every SEC team was trying to build a winner. Most of the ACC and Big 12 too.

Easy to win when no one else cares. Hardee when everyone is shooting for it.

lots of people outside of LSU cared, look at some of the guys from those teams and other teams out west who went on to have great ml careers, LSU is, and always will be a football school, just because it wasn’t popular here doesn’t mean “no one cares,” LSU has always been way behind the times/power curve in catching up to everyone else in the athletic department

ETA: Cholly Mac kind of gave LSU baseball a kick in the nuts too after Miley left for MLB, he said no more baseball playing football players, and back then most of the best athletes played multiple sports all of their “formative years

I’ll be honest, if Jay stays here for a career it’ll either be a huge disappointment or we will have more titles than USC and he will pass Skip in total.

I don’t think he’s going anywhere so, yeah he should get us there.

Exactly. Thank you. Yes, they proved my point.

Some people’s ability to critically think … isn’t very good.

Worrying about those USC titles back in the late Cretaceous period is like getting all worked up next time Army comes to town: “We need to get revenge on them for stealing Paul Dietzel!”

Rod Dedeaux - I met him at his birthday party in Southern California. We were attending a meeting at the hotel. And I recognized him, a member of his family asked me to come in and have a piece of cake.
I have his autograph on a restaurant menu.
He signed it Geaux Trojans, Geaux Tigers!!

Its much more difficult to go on CWS runs now compared to when USC did it.
