You are kind of proving him correct. No one outside of USC really cared about baseball back then. Certainly nowhere near the level it is today and not really close to the level of the 90s. So it may not be ancient history but it absolutely is pretty meaningless.

Not so sure. Who is benefiting from the baseball portal more than LSU?
There has always been premier competition from the top schools and it has never been easy to win it all. But is there another school that matches what Jay is doing as far as grabbing exactly what the team needs each year as far as incoming talent?

we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one, everyone looks at it from their own perspective, and everyone on this board sees everything through P&G goggles

I enjoy looking at the CWS “Records and Statistics” section. Before CJJ arrived, we were outside of the top-5 in everything except titles. Jay has us now top-5 in everything.

I remember Dedeaux, on one of his teams' last trips to Omaha, compaining about the local fans supporting LSU in such numbers. He also complained that his games were only covered by a L.A. radio station through a local station's broadcast. USC beat who they had to beat but there were no regionals, super regionals & the country-wide level of competition was nowhere close to what Skip & Polk, et al had to beat just to get to Omaha. Texas' multiple championships are a lot more legit by the 90's & today's standards.

Title IX killed USC baseball for a while; they had a slight resurgence in the 90s/early 00s, but as soon as Title IX came about even with Rod Dedeaux still there (he won 11 of their 12 CWS titles), they dropped off immediately and didnt recover for about a decade. The recovery happened once Skip got things going here and baseball was just more competitive. They won their only other title in 1998 but they were mainstays again in baseball at that point in the 90s and early 00s....then fell off a cliff once again after the early 2000s.

I don't know about that.
He did lose to Northwestern midweek last year.

Jay doesn’t think about Fridays game until Wednesday night at midnight. You think he is worried about topping USC in all time Natties?

But will he still have to pay US taxes when he moves to Europe?

Its much more difficult to go on CWS runs now compared to when USC did it.
It’s much more difficult to go on CWS runs now than when Skip did it. It’s really fricking hard to win a NC. Really fricking hard. LSU fans perception of that has been completely warped due to Skip, Saban, the fact that we had 3 straight football HCs to win one (and 2 were Les Miles and Ed Orgeron), and now with Jay winning 2 out of 3.
There is so much luck that goes into every single NC. You can have the best players, the best coach, the best everything, and not even get to Omaha. The bigger the tournament, the more luck you need. And the OP is suggesting that Jay “should” win another 4 or 5 to tie or pass USC? Barring something unforeseen, he’ll probably be here another 15-20 years. And I’d be really surprised if he doesn’t win another couple. But there’s a better chance he doesn’t win another than there is he wins 5 more. And I also think these unrealistic expectations take away from the previous NC teams and just how hard it was for them to win it and how special every single NC team is.

With the current state of the LSU Jay Johnson program, this certainly seems doable.

I was born in 90. Usc hasnt won one in my lifetime. Lsu on the other hand... we are the baseball giant. Absolutly without a doubt, the current baseball kings. You think college baseball, you think LSU.
Nevermind, was going off a google search on usc last year and rememebered wrong. Second part is still very true.

you need to do your research on college baseball. USC won in 1998.
LSU should have won that year. Still haunts me.

no doubt. LSU has more than double the NC"s since 1980 than any college baseball program. That's the last 45 years.
