I’m sorry about Guthrie’s mom. But children go missing in the US every fricking day.

Headlines out the wazoo about this lady. Media begging for tips. I hope the woman is found safe, but it seems unlikely at this point.
All those true crime junkies eat this shite up because they’re sociopaths and this is dealing with a B-list celebrity’s mother. But I seriously think it’s insane how much attention this story is getting when some poor child out there is going to go missing this week with not 1/1000th of the public attention.

Haven’t seen any of your threads about those kids, but you made one about Guthrie’s mom. Maybe you are part of the problem too.

Human nature.
When something happens all the time, it doesn’t get people’s attention. When something is rare, it’s much more captivating.

Amen. I will never understand the weird fascination with true crime. I have some theories...
You got the folks who want to play amateur internet sleuth like it's a game. These are people's lives. Y'all must ain't ever had some bad shite happen to you to take this stuff so lightly like it's a game.
Then you got the folks who deep down inside who probably be a serial killer and have a list of folks they want to off but would never have the gumption or balls to act on it, so they get off on reading and listening about people who actually did it.
shite is bizarre to me.
The downvote button is on the bottom right...

When there are more eyes on these agencies they put in maximum effort. The FBI, US Marshalls, etc cannot risk being seen as helpless and incompetent because then people will enact revenge on their own.

I get the point I really do
But in reality, kids aren't kidnapped by gunmen everyday (here at least). If a low risk kid from a low risk family is missing and it's not immediately obvious what the deal is (almost every Amber Alert here is a hispanic dad snatching his own kid and they're always fine) - it makes pretty big news.
Celebrity aside, there is a lot for the Dateline obsessed crowd to follow and the media is always going to deliver.

If you look back in history of celebrity kidnappings, there are two that come to mind Patty Hearst and the Charles Lindbergh baby kidnapping that come to mind where the media went hysterical in coverage.

The majority of people following this case do not consider it to be a celebrity kidnapping
I'm a news junkie and I had never heard about Savannah Guthrie before her mom was abducted.
I bet the majority here don't consider this a celebrity kidnapping

This.
Missing children fall into one of two categories... runaways and non custodial parents.
Less than 1% are stranger kidnappings.
Pay attention to your Amber Alerts, Petti is right... it's almost always the mom or the dad.
The cases where a kid IS snatched by a stranger do actually make the news.

It’s because media manipulates what people care about and invest in.

You leave the US Marshals out of this. You can direct your comment to the corrupt FBI, Homeland Security, and CIA, but the Marshals Service is spotless and does good, quiet work

Elizabeth Cook wrote a song about one of the too many missing, a sweet young girl that vanished here in middle TN.

You are correct, it has become a business to attract our attention or rather our "Clicks" but it doesn't change the fact that this case is very bizarre and therefore it will attract my attention

Because of this thread I went to Fox News and CNN. Both sites have this case as the top headline.
In what bizarro world is some shite like this considered the most important thing going on in our country right now.
The news is entertainment now. shite is sad.

The Epstein files are the same way
Celebrity gossip makes more money in general than someone random

Or maybe there’s a demand in what the media is putting out? Look at McDonalds. We can blame them for selling unhealthy foods. But at the same time, they are going along with the demands.

Take a small break each day from the majority of the sad and depressing news and visit GNN instead of CNN

Yep agree. I keep asking people why do they care so much?

It's not about a human and he knows it. It's about coverage. He hasn't eaten McDonald's in 10 years, watched the NFL since Kaepernick and certainly not mainstream media since 2016.
Up vote him so he feels virtuous and important.
