Despite what you may thing I know lawyers at major energy companies that have been impacted. This is not only entry level call center agents being impacted.

I suspect a company’s spin after a layoff isn’t exactly truthful

Yes, I know several radio new readers replaced by computers doing the news and especially the weather on cable tv. Used to be a human, now you can tell it's a robot.

not specifically but our company acquired 2 other companies this year and instead of hiring 1 or 2 dedicated legal-types to work through the merger documentation and due diligence on the companys' balance sheets and other paperwork we purchased some fancy $50k Ai tool that crunched all the data we would normally spend 6 months+ on in 2 weeks and provide actionable data which we were then able to verify and seal the deal immediately.

according to our CEO that saved roughly $200k in additional hires.

This happened to me in the 90s. As a former point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, I was laid off and replaced by AI .

im butchering what it did for us but apparently it was VERY specialized for a particular type of legal work - company acquistions.

I've barely used AI, but I've still run into one or two situations where AI got electrical/fire alarm code information wrong. I even responded to it saying that it's info conflicted with code section xxx and it replied saying that it fricked up (I'm not sure if the AI learns from the feedback or not). That kind of code information is practically the same thing as law, so I definitely wouldn't trust it enough to replace humans.

I know several major insurance companies are starting to cut their incidence response (IT) folks in favor of more AI. Or reducing the size of those teams and purchasing AI software to replace multiple jobs on a team.

My wife works in commercial real estate. Her office recently fired about 30% of the staff because of some new software tool. I think it is called AI V7 or something like that.

With AI you get what you pay for. Free AI is garbage. Specialized, AI is amazing.

It's hitting knowledge careers so hard right now. There really is no need for any more H1B visas to ever be issued.

I suspect it’s most likely human error with your prompting. Despite most people’s assumptions to the contrary you have to prompt the model to only return factually accurate and verifiable information. If you don’t it will start to essentially make up bullshite and people don’t realize that. Also are you using the free online versions that are just a glorified google or are you using the professional paid subscription models?

this is what the OT doesn’t understand. The free web versions to help you write a thank you note or google something are trash. The paid for embedded in company data and systems models can eliminate massive amounts of the workforce. Enterprises
are testing it right now and will start cutting soon when they gain the confidence from use

Its just getting started.

The AI today is growing exponentially in its capabilities and just as importantly the awareness among ceos as to what can be done with AI is increasing.

No, promoted.

I retired back in 2024. My tech lead of the robotics/automation practice / platform I implemented at a fortune 100 company (ended up with 60-75 bots) was promoted bc of AI. We did such a good job w the automation program my lead was called into the CEO / CIO's offices and "voluntold" to lead the corp rollout of Copilot and Claude.

Six months later, he's stressed out as his current mgmt sucks, wishes I was still there. I briefly had remorse that I'm not there in the thick of things, learning, planning, executing.
