Does anyone here feel shame supporting a Big 6 club?

Not attacking anyone, I just am asking what I feel is a legitimate question. What would your retort be to a native Englishman calling you out supporting the team you do? This really applies to any team since we're all thousands of miles away across the Atlantic, but this seems to only matter to them when Americans pick perennial contenders.
They do it over there too, though (a person from Bristol supporting Liverpool as an example, never having given a flying frick about Bristol City or Bristol Rovers).
Just curious. I have really noticed that British people in general love to gatekeep this sport from Americans in particular.

I would retort that they should reform their sport to where more than 5-6 teams have a realistic shot of winning anything.
Every major professional US sport you could pick any team and they have a “realistic” shot at a championship, or at least being competitive.
Closest comp here is college sports if you’re naturally a fan of a G5 school. But honestly most people in that situation pick a P5 team as well. Maybe you went to Bowling Green but you’re also a fan of Ohio State.

I went to Carolina with people that were Gamecock football fans but UNC or Duke basketball fans. That shite really annoyed me..

I support enough shitty American teams. I don't need to burden myself with supporting a mid-tier English team as well.

No, because no matter what team an American picks to root for, it's a bandwagon.

I have a friend who is a Gamecock, Bills, and Everton fan. Though I know Everton is not historically some lowly team. They just haven't done anything much since the turn of the century aside from circling the proverbial toilet bowl.

I do, but it's only because they've been sucking donkey dick the past couple of seasons.

They should feel shame. So much shame that they need to quit there allegiance to the Big 6 and support Leeds instead. MOT

It has gotten better.
My rebuttal to it is who cares who you support and I have watched 98% of every 90 minutes Arsenal has played since I was 19 in 2013. I have lived through the late Wenger years, the dogshit Emery year and a half, and the horrendous early Arteta days when he had no choice but to start donkeys like Mustafi and Sokratis. I will damn well enjoy every second of this squad and season and players because if I had the means you better believe I would be in the Emirates week in and out.
I'm not gonna watch MLS. I want the best quality. It is the reason I'll put on an SEC or Big 10 college football game but won't tune in or give a shite about a MEAC game. I want the best football and most talented teams. MLS isn't that and never will be. That's okay tho. Just keep pumping top talent to Europe.

Not at all. I have no local, historical, or family connection to any club, so there is nothing I am forsaking. The Big 6 are all over the media and easy to access. They also have the best players.
I want to support a team that I can easily watch and that plays good football.
If a group of English people decided to pick college football teams to support no one would pick Mississippi State (I think they are Palace in this analogy), let alone a G5 like North Texas (Championship Team) or some DIII team (lower division).

depends entirely on the person and circumstances that led them to pick that team.
Ironically most American Man United fans are pretty decent just because the vast majority who dive in avoid them as it’s too cliche, so they tend to have good reasons or links as to why, or they’ve just been a fan for a very very long time going back to the 90’s and probably are a good football fan at this stage.
American Liverpool fans also tend to be pretty good for the most part. For whatever reason the douchebags seem to go for Chelsea or Arsenal.
Spurs fans i just feel sorry for

I've been liking Liverpool since the early 2000's. Kind of hard to call me a bandwagon fan picking a Big 6 Club that hadn't won a league title since 1990, and then stayed supporting them while waiting 20 years to win the league again.
I liked Steven Gerrard. That's why I liked Liverpool. Don't know why I stuck with them b/c i liked Thierry Henry as well but didn't become an Arsenal fan for whatever reason. I've always like Arsenal and how they play, but never followed them as a fan. I never liked ManU, or Chelsea. When i started paying attention to the EPL it would have been very bandwagony to start being a fan of ManU or Chelsea, imo.

I started supporting Arsenal when I did a FIFA my player back in 2011 or 2012 and I liked their logo. Been a fan since, and let me tell you, it has NOT been a good time until recently

This is interesting. And I wonder if there's a difference between British people in the US and British people back home.
I say this because I started following West Ham a few years ago and got completely hooked. They have a little fan club here in DC that'll have watch parties and I'll go to about half a dozen a year. There are about 3-5 older English guys that were born and raised West Ham fans but happen to live in DC. When I talk to them about it they absolutely love that there are Americans that support West Ham. Mostly I think they can't believe any person that wasn't raised a Hammer would choose them over one of the Big 6s or something because West Ham hasn't exactly stacked a lot of trophies in the case. This is probably even more the case since they grew up in an era where probably no one outside of England had ever really heard of West Ham.
I do wonder if Big 6 English fans have more of an issue with foreign fans because they have to deal with "sports tourists" that come to their games in person.
My opinion on American fans of Big 6 clubs? At the end of the day, I wasn't raised a West Ham fan, so I can't judge anyone for "choosing" an English team. I get the sentiment though. With that said, I do know a couple of American fans who have supported one of the Big 6s for decades (I guess when it was more of a Big 5 or 4), which meant they've followed that team well before English soccer was so easy to watch in the US. So they had to go out of their way to follow a team that none of their other friends in the US even really gave a shite about.

I'll say this too, there is something to be said for fans not born-and-raised supporting a big team but have stuck with them even when they're in a down year. They aren't fans simply because they're stacking trophies.
I actually have a buddy who has been in SC his whole life. The biggest Gamecock fan you'll ever meet. But he's mid-30s and got absolutely hooked on the Cowboys dynasty when he would've been about 5-8 years old. The Cowboys haven't exactly won a whole lot since then, but bless him he is as loyal as ever and watches every single game every single Sunday for the last 30 years. He may not be from Dallas or even TX, but not for a second do I doubt the sincerity of his fandom.

This is my favorite. Liverpool fans trying to take the moral high ground for picking the most successful club in English football history and about to win or having just won a CL title. The only thing more insufferable than an American Liverpool fan is an English one.

no moral high ground for me. Early 2000's most of the guys I played with were Man U fans. They did not like Liverpool so I decided to go for them for banters sake. They did win a CL in 2005 but its not like they did much between 2001 - Jurgen Klopp coming that was worth band wagoning. Hell, at that point, it was very similar to being an Alabama fan post Bear Bryant. Living off the past with small specks of success.
ETA: I do have a soft spot for Aston Villa as well but that is simply based on me being a Birminghamian.

Ironically i jumped on the Leeds bandwagon when they were in the champions league. Then got to experience the joys of multiple relegations, player firesales, administration, losing an fa cup match on a goal scored by an actual postman, the club nearly switching to the worst football crest ever designed, owners judging whether to make signings based on their football manager ratings, and a host of other wonderful occurrences.

When I decided to really get into premier league ~15 years ago, the tv coverage was nothing like it is today
If you wanted to be able to watch your team somewhat regularly, it had to be a big 6 club

Feeling shame for supporting the greatest team in the history of sports would be retarded.
