Don Dubuc’s radio show doesn’t typically include breaking news – unless you’re a hunter or angler looking for last-minute tips while on your way to your spot. Last weekend was different. Dubuc dropped a bombshell toward the end of his show, announcing that his Feb. 7 edition will be his last after around four decades as Louisiana’s voice of the outdoors. The 75-year-old will shut down his long-running "Outdoors with Don Dubuc" radio program and shift into retirement mode. It marks the end of an era for generations of sportsmen who tune in to WWL every Saturday from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. for the latest on the speckled trout bite, duck hunting season and a long list of related topics. He said it’s simply time to move on. He’s ready to enjoy more time with his family and be able to actually hunt and fish on Saturday mornings instead of talking about it on the radio.

His radio show in its current form is in its 37th year, beginning in 1989, though an earlier version actually started in 1984. Dan Barron, general manager for Audacy New Orleans, which owns WWL, said the station hasn’t yet decided whether it will broadcast a similar outdoors show in the future. It will air other programming in Dubuc’s time slot over the short term.
end of an era
well done mr dubuc

End of an era. Loved listening to his show early in the mornings. Something about the sound of his voice.

Cheers to Don on a successful career, he was one of a kind and will be missed - I have little faith in WWL continuing on with the show.

Dang. I remember we started listening to him in the early 90’s. My dad would put it on when we were on the way to our hunting spot. Another part of our hunting trips now nothing but a memory.

Core memories growing up was heading down to hopedale/shell beach/delacroix and listening to his show on the radio on LA 46 or 300 all the way until we had shrimp in the boat and heading out to the spot.
Thanks for everything mr dubuc!

Thanks for 37 years of outdoor, sportsman radio greatness Mr. Dubuc. Go enjoy retirement, you've certainly earned it. May you have many years of health, wealth and love.

Heard that yesterday.
Man just hearing his voice on Saturday morning brings me back to so many amazing times in my youth. Heading out to Grand Isle early early in the morning and listening to his reports, updates and tips.
They don't make 'em like Mr. Don Dubuc anymore.
A true Louisiana Legend.

I grew up listening to Mr Don on the way to the spillway with my dad. My boys grew up listening to Mr Don. This is a sad day.

WWL would crank up the wattage overnight and early mornings and we would listen to his show every morning at the deer lease in South Texas all through the 90's and 00's. We would get a kick out of the guides that would call in and say things were a little slow this week, we only averaged about 50 to 60 trout per day

I will always treasure listening to Don as my Dad and brother would be driving to Venice to going fishing, diving or hunting. Great run Don. You will be missed. Don’t know if the show will continue, but Kevin Ford would be great as the new host. JMO

Is the hot captain taking his place?

Weird that I have loved listening to Don ( a little taste of home) while on my way to fly fish up here in North Arkansas or duck hunting or going to work. Thanks Don!

I remember listening before a duck hunt around 2002. A guy from Missouri called in and warned of what was to come. It took a while but it happened.
