The thing that frustrates me about immigration policy. One party has unfair advantage

Biden was allowed to let in 7 million illegals between 2021 and 2024. There were no district judges stopping him. There was nothing the out of power party could do to stop it. The voters voted for Biden and open borders and got it.
Then, voters ousted the democrats and elected republicans to close the border and remove, at the very least, those 7 million people. The trump admin has faced thousands of lawsuits, judge rulings that delay removal, and numerous other obstacles to carry out the will of the voters.
There is something wrong with a system that lets one side let in 7 million but doesn’t let the other side deport 7 million. It’s not democracy.
Yes, it is true that the 700,000 deportations in 2025 was a record. But it’s only 10% of what Biden let in. And that doesn’t count all the illegals who entered during Obama, bush, etc.
For the dems on this board, imagine we had a system that made it very easy to lower taxes on the rich but very difficult for a dem to get elected and restore tax rates of the rich to their old level.
That’s what the immigration system is like.

Green Chili Tiger and Decatur are saying these are dreamers that should have their shot at the American dream. It’s racist to think otherwise.

As with most problems, the problem is too much government,. specifically here, permitting so much discretion to the executive. We need more strict interpretation of executive power given by Congress.

We need more strict interpretation
We need nothing more in "interpretation" from the Judicial Branch.
We need Congress to do its damn job.
We currently have a three branch government with one of the three asleep at the switch. The solution is not to further strengthen either of the other two branches. Congress needs to take its power back.

He let in more like 10 to some estimates are as high as 20 million in over his presidency.
I think we all wish it was only 7.

Yep. No doubt.

It is not a democracy. It's a republic. But it is always harder to enforce than not enforce. Because when you enforce a law you are limiting.
When you don't enforce a law, you get over 10 million illegal immigrants.
And honestly I understand what you are saying. But we tend to follow rules, democrats just get them interpreted differently through their network of activists judges...

quote:In fact, that is exactly what this Congress does.
Congress does not give power to the Executive.
Legislation trumps EO's 100% of the time. But apparently legislating is an impossible task for this Legislative branch. So instead the Executive fills the void.

3/4 of the entire congress is more interested in protecting their money streams needed for reelection than they are in 'doing their damn job.'
We need strict limits on spending on political campaigns. it is a mockery of all that is logical for BILLIONs of $$$ are spent on them. the only thing congress does is protect their own particular siphon hose into the taxpayers pocket for their own benefit.

One would expect a constitutional scholar and Atty to know this.

Where do you think the executive discretion in immigration comes from, if not statutory authority given via Congress?

Doesnt that already exist? We dont have to imagine it.
But yes the immigration problem is massive.
Theres no quick fix. We have to methodically remove them all, starting with the criminals and fraudsters that are bleeding us dry.
Its gonna be a long road but it has taken us decades of allowing illegals to be here to get to this point. We should expect at least 2 decades to get to the point of having under a million illegals residing here

Wrong
This is all coming via statute,. specifically immigration statutes.

Out immigration laws are pretty comprehensive.

quote:Congress granted EB discretion vis a vis the Immigration and Nationality Act. But that grant was not unlimited. In fact, the executive powers in immigration come from the EB expanding granted discretion. Congress is simply too impotent to claw it back. Impotency invites replacement. The JB and EB have no ED problem. So Congress cucks itself to the Executive and Judicial Branches

If Congress thought the POTUS was overstepping it could redo the INA in a heartbeat were it not a completely impotent branch of government. The fact is Congresses in the past 2 decades probably include 9 or 10 of the weakest in our nation's history.

My dream is a law where the people who want open borders like Green Chili and Decatur pay $25k in additional taxes every year to pay for the burden illegal immigrants place on America First/MAGA taxpayers who don't want the illegals in the US.
If the Democratic Socialists would do this ^^^^ I would likely bitch a lot less.

If the USSC rules the way Trump wants and creates the Unified Executive, that would be difficult short of repealing the entire law.
Just look at the independent agency cases and the AEA case.
