A newly introduced Senate bill from Ohio Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno would prohibit individuals receiving public assistance from sending money overseas through remittance transfers, a move aimed at ensuring taxpayer-funded benefits are spent inside the United States and not exported abroad.

The legislation, titled the "Stopping Transfers of Public Funds Abroad Act," would require anyone applying for or receiving federal public assistance to sign a written declaration stating they will not send money through remittance transfers while receiving benefits.

Under the proposal, anyone who violates that declaration would face a civil fine of up to $100,000.

The bill directs federal agencies that administer public assistance programs to enforce the restriction during both initial applications and reapplications for benefits. Recipients would be required to certify, under penalty of perjury, that they are not transferring funds via remittance services while receiving aid.

Additionally, it is common sense that if you are able to send money to family overseas, you are not "needy"

Which begs the question. If they have enough excess money to be sending it abroad, are they getting too much assistance?

So what is the enforcement mechanism? The honor system?

Useless bill. Even if it passes, there will be loopholes. A person can simply give it to another person and that sends it.

Correct. But, without reading the fine print, most of us on here could find ways around this prohibition in about 90 seconds.

Next they can try to enforce people not handing over their food stamps or EBT cards for some cash. They can't balance a budget, how are they going to stop this from happening.

They'll still find a way, but at least now it will make it a crime if they're caught.

Sounds a lot like us getting taxed too much if they can send billions around the world.

Adding the extra step now makes it a crime to try to avoid that.

Then the worthless GOP wouldn't have the headline to "brag" about.

simply requiring the remittance be documented to be from a valid tax return individual would be of more use. Self certification is useless

Sen. Paul introduced a Bill to end Welfare to illegals. Hope it goes to the Floor and forces Congress on record. Defund ICE and fund Cartel thugs. Dem policy.
