In 16 years, Payton never fired Pete Carmichael.

Payton firing Lombardi smells like scapegoating to me.

When the Saints were in the playoffs, offense was never the problem.

Offense is the Broncos problem right now, with and without Nix.

Denver didn't have much of a run game and Bo Nix while shaky at times tended to make plays in the 4th quarter and that was usually just enough.

Denver had a really good defense of course.

I wasn't buying what the media was saying about what Payton does with backups.

Stidham was far less experienced than Teddy Bridgewater was. Not to mention Teddy was quarterbacking wins during the regular season.

Stidham got a spot start in the dead gum AFC championship. Yeah got'em Kid!

Lombardi must have been the brain trust behind not kicking the FG early on

No it doesn’t. It smells like you don’t understand who they’re trying to promote. This is all about Davis Webb coming up and he will be promoted to OC if he doesn’t take or get a head coaching gig.

Yup. All about holding on to Webb.

I'm sure Drew Brees played a big part of that

Payton actually being forced to fire his friends? He wouldn't have dat pressure if he had remained Coach-for-Life under Gayle.

In Payton’s defense, I think they 100% win that game with Nix at QB. Injuries are a reality of the business but still is not an easy pill to swallow knowing you are likely in the SB if not for an injury on the 2nd to last play.

Then he should fire the problem, which is himself, not a scapegoat OC.

Don’t state the obvious too loudly or the Payton thumpers will cry foul.

Imagine if we had this type of Broncos defense any time during the Brees era

Yet Payton decided to skip the 3 points and put that 4th down in his hands. Denver is now experiencing what we endured many times over. As great as Payton was for us here, this was always his biggest Achilles heel.

It was definitely was from 2017 onwards. Here's our team totals:

2017: Beat Panthers 31-26, lost to Vikes 29-24. So 31 and 24, pretty good

2018: Beat Eagles 20-16, lost to Rams 23-26 (and squandered a bunch of chances)

2019: Lost to Vikes 26-20

2020: Beat Bears 21-9, lost to Bucs 30-20

So, scored 31, 24, 20, 23, 20, 21, and 20. Not exactly high octane

16th in the league in yards, 14th in ypc, tied for 11th in TDs, tied for 11th in 20+ yard runs, tied for 8th in 40+ yard runs. If you look at many of the teams above them they weren't playoff (and some VERY bad) teams. They were one of the better rushing teams to make the playoffs.

Think you’re leaving out the fact that Brees in those last two years was not the Brees prior. He was ag the very end and could no longer push the ball down the field.

And yet when you sat there and watched that game the other day they couldn't run it worth a lick
