3 yr/30 mil RB or #8 pick RB

What do you think is the better option,
Breece Hall at 3 yr 30 mil
Or
Love at #8.
I think even if Love may be a better RB than Breece, that it’s negligible and I’d rather sign Breece and use the #8 pick on defense

I’d rather Breece Hall and David Bailey/Rueben Bain/Caleb Downs than Love, personally. But I think either the money for Hall or the draft capital for Love could be better spent elsewhere.

Breece Hall
Will probably be about 3yr/36 mil.
But then you draft Bain, Bailey, or Reese at 8 and save money overall on the RB/DE cost combo.
That scenario is better than drafting Love and signing Hendrickson to a 3 yr 70 mil. Deal.

Breece Hall is going to get a minimum of 4 years/50 million from someone. There are too many teams desperate for a top level RB.
Give me Love every day of the week

Good DEs just aren’t available in free agency that aren’t top dollar

I feel we can get a good RB in rounds 2-4.
A good DL or Tate with our pick.
If not there, trade down into teens and get more picks

We are not drafting a RB.

This. Give me the 2nd/3rd tier all day for a fraction of the cost.

Saints are not signing a FA RB. They owe Kamara $18M in 2026 so Love on a rookie contract makes sense if they want a RB.
Kamara is on his way out the door, Miller can't stay healthy, Neal has shown promise but it would be a giant leap of faith to assume he could replace Kamara. Estime' looks like a decent #3. Hull is just PS depth.
Love immediately give you a #1 RB with receiving capabilities. His blocking is a concern though at this point but most RB's coming out of college are behind the sticks in blocking. Neal has been one of the few to excel in that area as a rookie in my recent memory.

Kamara gonna do the Honey Badger restructure and shed a ton of that money. The answer is obviously Hall / Etiene / Walker with one of the top WRs. That completely fixes your offense, assuming you sign a guard in FA.

What about Fano or Mauigoa in the first and Singleton, Price or Taylor in the 3rd?
Not sure we can afford to sign Hall. Even if we do, you better draft a OG in the second. We have got to fix our OL.

Yeah the Kamara deal is increasingly bad in retrospect. I hate paying running backs when they’re the NFL’s version of a new car with rapidly diminishing value. There are definitely exceptions like Kamara’s SECOND deal, Henry, etc.
But for the most part I think that room should be refreshed every few years if you have a good system.

I'm not against drafting a RB in the 1st round if it makes sense, player is that good, fills a need. But, with the number of positions this team needs to address, a player like Love is a luxury. Outside of addressing a significant number of these positions in FA, I think you have to go a different direction.
Especially, if you can get a player like Hall in the $10-15M range. He's young, proven what he can do in the league, and would not be that much more expensive than a player you'd get at 8*.
We know the rookie salary's are slotted, so we can assume what it will be based off of last year's #8 pick, McMillan. McMillan signed a 4 year, fully guaranteed, $27.9M contract. That's an average of just under $7M a year, save to assume this year's #8 pick will be around that $7.7M average (Penix was 8 in 2024 and signed at $5.7M average). I don't expect another 20% bump, so went with 10%.

it seems like you aren't understand the rookie contract of the 8 pick as it relates to what most rb's in nfl get paid. that is sort of the conundrum.

Between Payton & Moore, the team didn't have a good system. Also, it appears they have been trying to bring guys in to replicate that Ingram/AK tandem. They just grabbed the wrong guys
At least that $18.5M owed to AK will be the end of the contract, unless Mickey triples-down, and the team will only have to deal with another $8.1M in void money in 2027. Flip side is the "leaked rumor" from another poster indicating AK is seriously considering retirement. If the team & AK are on the same page and AK really wants to retire, he could wait until June and his $18.5 would drop to $7M (still keeping $8.1M on 2027); or they take their lumps and take the entire $15.1M in 2026 and keep 2027 clean, but that's not the Mickey way

I think neither! We are set at RB we just need to fix the Oline.

Breece Hall is terrible. Don’t want under any circumstances
Posted on 1/26/26 at 11:01 am to Lsujacket66
I’d rather get Allgier, will cost half of Breece. And get a defensive player in the first.
