What do you think Dumars' vision was heading into this season?

Obviously, the simple answer is "there was no vision" and I'm sure there are a lot of jokes to be made, but I'm actually curious what he thought the realistic best case scenario was for this season between keeping Willie, trading away next year's unprotected pick and bringing in Poole.

Was the idea really that we are in "win now" mode with a chance to compete for a top 6 seed in the West?

It's crazy if that was really the thought process, but that's the only thing that makes sense with the offseason moves we made.

I honestly thought we'd be a playin team if we had decent health and tried. It shouldn't be that hard and we shouldn't be this bad. We have legit gave away at least 10 wins. If it wasn't working, then shake shite up and move some people. Standing pat makes no sense. Almost nothing else does either. I just can't defend them anymore..

Everyone thinks they can fix Zion. He should have talked to some people.

This makes it hard to imagine he had any plan whatsoever outside of total implosion of the franchise and running off the few fans that were left.

But is that where we should want to be? Especially if we are mortgaging the future just to have our playoff hopes come down to 1 or 2 games?

If best case scenario for this roster at the beginning of the year is to make the play-in, then that's a whole other problem.

I think he felt a lot of our Ls last year were due to injuries, so if he could improve the depth, we would be fine this year.

Dumars expressed a desire for a deep roster, aiming for a team where, regardless of who is injured or on the court, they are expected to win.

He lost me when he said he didn't believe in analytics, he just wanted players who played hard every night.

I'd take either at this point.

I would trust Stevie Wonder's vision over Joe Dumars.

You will never not convince me that Dumars' sole purpose for being here is to completely destroy this franchise in NOLA. If you accept that as a fact, every action he has made is consistent and explainable. If he is really trying to do a good job, I fear he is mentally retarded.

It's more due to the injuries than to his skill level and id argue that all day

Even if he was healthy, his skill level is not that of someone you build around.

Yes. I wanted to have a winning record and be in the playoffs this season. If you wanted to tank, then you got your wish. This is what that is like, being horrible and losing all the time.

That was the most optimistic projection. I don't think anyone projected a top 4 seed or anything. I thought (hoped) we could get into the top 6. But I never thought we'd be a contender.

I just don't share the vision of contend or rebuild/tank. I think there is a happy median, where you become good and save the resources for a finishing move to put you over the top. I don't ever want to intentionally be bad for more than a year. A refresh/tear down is sometimes necessary. But there has to be a plan and players should always try to win..

Brother... we're not tanking.

That's the problem.

And no, you should not strive to be a play-in team. That's essentially NBA purgatory.

I think he was genuinely dumb enough to think this team was decent enough to make the playoffs. Now we’re 10-36 with no 1st and no general direction.

Dumars is doing the stupid two timeline stuff that never works. He needs to pick a fricking lane. Either go in on youth and trade the vets or go all in on the vets.

The Poole trade was a fireable offense on its own, nevermind the Queen trade which would get any other Exec fired in this league.

“Even if he was healthy, his skill level is not that of someone you build around.”

This is what I have come to understand. He may well be the best dribble-drive left handed layup maker of all time, but he is too limited—in addition to being incredibly unreliable—to build around. His skillset is also hard to make him your go to guy at crunch time unless you have more shooters than we do. I am not saying he sucks but I thought he could be first or second team all NBA.

Be mediocre. That’s Gayle’s demand every year. Just be decent with no real chance at doing anything in the postseason.. except we can’t even do that.

Do what Gayle says. Get a horse name after himself. Mission accomplished.

I remember looking forward to every Pelicans game years ago. Game day threads were twenty pages long. Now it’s maybe 2 or 3. I come here to find out if anything has changed. It’s hard to care about a franchise when it’s apparent the front office doesn’t
