We’ve been shopping around for daycares in the north Austin area and everything is $400+/week. That’s another mortgage. Being a parent is expensive

How many kids?

About 8 years ago, I was paying $1600 a month for 3 of them in Baton Rouge.

Once the last one was out of daycare, I went and bought a new vehicle.

biting the bullet for 3+ years that’s how.

it sucks, but wifey’s salary is where it more than offsets the costs of daycare for 2. But we’ll be getting a raise this August and another raise next August!

I feel ya, baw. I was paying about $1k a month 10 years ago and I thought that was insane. I got the kids into Montessori once they were 18 months old and it was more like $800 per month per kid.

And you are not getting a mortgage in Austin for $1600 per month today...

we pay $260/week for two kids under 5 to get babysat by a family friend of ours who is about to finish up her early child development degree at USM

But my wife was also stay at home for 2 years with the first one and 1 year with the second one. She got fed up with that real quick and was ready to join the workforce

Cool thing is they are going to Catholic school next year and it costs about the same per month

1/2 of them are probably receiving government paid daycare.

Yes, this is criminal, and then when the government steps into help you get the Learing Centers.

Would be alot easier if they stopped taking 40% of my income and wages caught up to inflation or inflation was under control, then maybe wife wouldnt have to work and could stay home. ( sorry not OT baller)

I am very grateful that we have family to help us.

Otherwise we would be limited to 1 child... like china but with out making it an "official policy"

I own one with my Somali baw neighbor and with the income we generate from that, we're able to live quite well.

If you’ve got 2 kids in daycare it’s probably cheaper for your wife to stay home.

Day care is expensive as hell and they know people will pay it. Yay destruction of traditional familial roles.

I’ll say the obvious part out loud. Women should stay home and raise children.

We unfortunately don't live in that type of economy anymore where a majority of Americans can support a family on one salary

ETA: I want to be clear that I agree with you. It's just not feasible for most.
