Boomer Esiason alludes to 2018 NFC Champ game being fixed.

Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason takes questions in an improvised press conference ahead of the Week 13 game between the Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers in downtown Cincinnati on Monday.
A sports gambling crisis erupted on Thursday morning, when law enforcement agents from the FBI arrested 31 individuals nationwide on allegations of involvement in an organized crime ring that rigged poker games. That group included an active NBA head coach, Chauncey Billups of the Portland Trail Blazers, as well as Miami Heat star point guard Terry Rozier and a former player in Damon Jones.
It's led to a furious debate about the place of betting in professional sports, and to what degree it may have intruded on the NFL. And one legendary quarterback invoked the New Orleans Saints' loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the 2018 NFC championship game, which centered around a controversial no-call late in regulation. When one of his co-hosts on WFAN brought up the possibility of referees being corrupted by gambling interests, and how hard that would be to prove, Boomer Esiason stepped in.
"I just think Rams-Saints. I think of that game, and I really do wonder," Esiason mused.
Obviously the game was fixed, I just wonder how far up it went? Was it all the way to Goodell?

I understand the thought, but why would Goodell not want a Brees/Brady Super Bowl?

L.A.market compared to LA market

The League wanted LA to be a gemstone featured franchise.

L.A. was building a $5 Billion stadium so they got to face Brady.
Ironically, Brady and the Rams would be the 1st teams to play homes games in the Super Bowl and win in back to back years.

Because he hates Sean Payton
Also, people focus (rightly) so on the no PI call, but there were multiple questionable calls in that game
Go watch the Saints first drive. Brees threw to the TE in the end zone. He was CLEARLY interfered with. It got ignored because it was early in the game and the TE still should have caught it, but it was PI nonetheless.
Game was rigged from the jump

You mean like when the Saints grabbed Goff’s face mask inside the 10 and it wasn’t called? Yeah, that cost the Rams four points.

And they waited until the last possible second to fix it? Why take that chance?

The fact is that Drew Brees missed a 3 yard slant pass to a wide open Michael Thomas that would have essentially ended the game. He makes that pass 49 out of 50 times. The next play was the uncalled PI.
Brees was outplayed by Jared Goff despite Goff facing a 10-0 deficit and one of the loudest crowds in NFL history. It is what it is. Brees was also outplayed by Kirk Cousins in another home playoff game 2 years later. Sad!
Payton and Brees should have reached at least 2 additional Super Bowls (2011 and 2018) and we'd have faced Brady and the Pats both times. They chocked them away. Only Green Bay and McCarthy / Rodgers chocked as hard and squandered as much talent in the 2010's.

This shite again? Are Saints fans suddenly the biggest snowflakes in all of pro sports?

Gambling has probably effected far more games than people suspect.
Most high level sporting events are pretty evenly matched and one bad actor trying to dishonestly effect the outcome can easily do so in a non-obvious way.

Exactly. It was one of the worst calls ever no doubt.
But the Saints were in position to win that game, they would have never been in that position if the game was fixed.

Brees would have destroyed the patriots in the SB. Everyone knows it too. That's why there should be an asterisk next to that year’s Super Bowl win.

It still had to be entertaining

Not a shocker. Weren’t all the refs from LA? One a Falcons fan? Super Bowl was in Atlanta that year.
Remember Brees being outspoken about Goodell power in like 2013? Payton too?
Remember with the whole BountyGate shenanigans Paul Tagilibue came out of retirement to listen to Saints appeal (which they won). Cause he thought Goodell was overstepping his boundaries as Commish.
