4. Not so good

For Single Player games? Great
The remakes and Switch 2 release helped.

Final Fantasy Tactics
Mario Kart World
Donkey Kong Banaza
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Blue Prince
Ghost of Yotei
Hades II (full release)
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Oblivion Remastered

These two, along with KCD2, made it outstanding in my book.

upgraded my PC with a 5080 and I have a backlog I'll never hope to get through. It's a great year.

Just wish I had more time to play relative to my other obligations.

Probably one of the best years ever for indie games specifically. AAA? Meh.

Here is the gaming quote of the year:

Make products for the customers you have, not the customers you wish you had

-Parker Lucky on Rogan
How many studios would have been saved if they only followed such common sense advice?

The biggest problem in modern video games isn't necessarily the quality of releases but the infrequency of quality releases.

There simply isn't high enough volume of quality releases compared to what it should be IMO.

Regardless, the year was overall quite meh IMO.

Have you been able to play all of the “quality releases” over the last few years, because I sure as shite haven’t

There were a lot of good releases, though not as many as in 2024. To name a few:

Death Stranding 2
Expedition 33
Monster Train 2
Once upon a Katamari
Öoo
Sektori
Silent Hill f
Split Fiction
World of Goo 2

Between KCD2 and EUV, I could play nothing else for a good while.

KCD2 was one of the best games I’ve ever played.

I don’t play enough other games to say one way or the other for the year, but that by itself deserves to be in a pretty elite pantheon of all time games IMO.
