Browsing the dwindling assholes on DU a whole thread of angry old hippies because Peter Theil will leave CA before paying their billionaires tax.
Calls to arrest him, lock him up, and mostly “how greedy can you be?! All delivered without a sense of irony.
How much money are you entitled? I’d say all you earned.
How much of someone else’s money are we entitled to? I’d say zero

That's because many liberals believe money supply is static and that the wealthy only got it by denying someone else. While crony capitalism has chosen some winners and losers, everyone can be middle-upper middle class, if they truly try.

The truth about taxing billionaires is that you can’t get any more money from them because they are already giving it away. Elon Musk said once that between $3 billion and $5 billion is basically infinity; that you can’t spend more than that.
So what is Elon doing with the other $700 billion he can’t spend? He is putting it to work for humanity - building companies to solve what he perceives are the biggest problems confronting mankind. What is Bill Gates doing with his? Giving it away at a rate that has him about half as wealthy as he would be if he never started his foundation.
The point is that if a billionaire can’t spend his fortune he perforce has to give it away, and they do. If you tax it they’ll just give away less. And you know they give it away more efficiently than the government would.

The Liberal view of greed is ever-changing, always evolving, always coming up with new ways to tax people. Peter Thiel and Larry Page are smartly leaving CA in advance because its already one of the most over-taxed yet fiscally mismanaged states in the country so if the state of CA is going to pass a law that starts taxing unrealized gains on investments, that is next level stupid and another shining example of exactly how blatantly hypocritical, shortsightedly stupid, and greedy Democrat policies truly are.

Liberals have everything backwards.
They believe a person wanting to keep what they rightfully own is "greed".
Wanting to take something from someone else against that person's will because your think you deserve it more than them is "not greed".

The liberal view is that wealth is a bit like energy, it can be neither created nor destroyed because it's a finite amount. If we think of it as a pie, then the only way someone can be rich or wealthy is because they've taken from someone else's share of the wealth pie.
We all know that's insane, but that's the underpinning of the liberal view. That being so distanced from reality is what is so incomprehensible to the rest of us.

What was the tax rate on wealthy people when America was at his greatest World War I in World War II? Since Republicans started their war on taxation, America has been in steady decline. Schools roads infrastructure have declined. The United States military went from being able to fight wars on two fronts to barely being able to fight a war. Add to this while Republicans were fighting taxes the Democrats totally destroyed our culture.
We need to remove waste from government but people need to pay their share of taxes. No one has ever needed a billion dollars. Let the uberwealthy and the government they bought and paid for figure this out.

There are a lot of things people don’t need. If you acquire it, why should someone be able to decide how much and what you should keep?
Why should people who own no property and live off of government assistance be able to vote on increases in taxes?

starting with that 601st dollar, every single American citizen was taxed - yes, even those who made a single dollar of taxable income:
Tax Rate for > $0 in taxable income was 20 %
that way everyone - not just the “rich” - had skin in the game
the “Republican war on taxation” actually started in 1964, when a Democratic POTUS and majority Dem Congress reduced the rates across the board - it wasn’t until 1977 (again, with Dems in control of the WH and Congress) that the bottom bracket rate was set to 0%
incidentally, that was also around the time that Federal debt began to run out of control

Using billions to create companies to make you more money is not the same thing as giving money away to charity. Not even remotely the same thing.
Also Elon isn’t using anything close to that 700 Billion on his companies, it’s just sitting as stock.

It’s better. Elon Musk is solving some of the biggest problems facing mankind. He will give virtually all of his money away, as will everyone with a net worth north of about $30 billion. They simply can’t spend it. And anyone who inherits it will probably spend a bunch on taxes and then give annually to charities. Tax them and they’ll just give less.

Is this a joke? Do you think that’s what stocks do? Just sit there? The value of those stocks is deployed as capital. It’s the fuel that makes the company go.
