Well, the FAA requires that a pet carrier have enough room for the animals to stand up, turn around, and still be able to fit under the seat in front of you.

The agent wasn’t on a power trip or making up arbitrary requirements. They are set out by the FAA and airline employees are trained to enforce those requirements. Some adults don’t like/can’t handle being told no.

I have seen it happen in airports.

One time it was Jimmy Johnson (the football coach / TV commentator). He got really upset with a gate attendant.

Another time, I was booked on a flight out of Chicago to Ottawa. I was the last person to purchase a ticket. The plane was over-weight. It came down to just me and one other guy who was much bigger than me. They told him that he could not get on the plane, but I could. He lost his mind.
